Bucknell Invite Recaps - Day 2

Delaware

After two days of competition at the Bucknell Invitational, the University of Delaware women’s swimming and diving team sit in fifth place, while the men’s squad is in sixth place heading into Sunday’s final day of competition.

A victory in the 800 freestyle relay was the highlight of the day for UD’s women’s team. The relay team of Brittany Lazear, Sarah Braatz, Hailey Farrell, and Dominique Montoya notched the lone win of the day for the Blue Hens with a time of 7:35.40. Montoya was also a member of the victorious 200 freestyle relay team Friday.

Lazear posted a seventh place finish in the 200 freestyle competition with a time of 1:54.16, while Hailey Farrell finished in eighth place in 400 IM race with a time of 4:30.23.

The Blue Hen women also performed well in Saturday’s other relay event as the team of Alyssa Sanders, Annie Nunes, Kristen Bishop, and Morgan Whyte notched a fifth place finish in the 200 medley relay.

On the men’s side, Tim Ware recorded the best finish of the day for the Delaware men as the senior tallied a second place finish in the 100 backstroke event with a time of 50.43.

Everett Albert finished in sixth place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.19, while Colin Hall placed fifth in the 1-meter diving competition with a total score of 267.85. The relay team of Ware, Albert, Tomas Elder, and Nicholas Badsky registered a time of 1:35.03 in the 200 medley relay, which was good for a seventh place finish.

After the second day of competition, Bucknell leads the women’s event with 1,023 points, while Yale sits atop of the men’s standings with 1,140 points.

 

Vermont

Vermont swimming and diving broke another six program records as the Catamounts wrapped up day two of the Bucknell Invitational in fourth place with 456 team points.

UVM opened the night session by breaking a pair of school records in the first event. Courtney Gray, Shannon Cowley, Andie Blaser and Christa Weaver swam to a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay while breaking the school's varsity record with a time of 1:43.44. In the same event, the relay squad of Jess Gorham, Madeline Blumenfeld, Alexy Novelli and Stefi Geiger set a new UVM freshmen record in 1:50.26, eclipsing the old mark of 1:51.25, which was set in 2011.

Vermont's 'B' relay squad of Brianna Sullivan, Kelly Lennon, Blumenfeld and Geiger closed out the night with a UVM freshmen record in the 800 free relay, clocking in at 7:47.30.

In the preliminary heats, both Andie Blaser and Shannon Cowley set new Vermont program records. Blaser raced to a time of 55.68 in the 100 fly to set a new UVM varsity record, and Cowley followed up with a new freshmen and varsity record in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.91. Blaser and Cowley's marks were both USA Swimming short course national qualifying times. 

Blaser earned UVM's top finish in the final heats of the 100 fly, placing second in a time of 55.73, while Gray clocked in at 57.59 to take seventh place. Cowley raced to a fourth-place showing in the 100 breast, touching the wall in 1:04.24.

The Catamounts will compete in the final day of the Bucknell Invitational tomorrow (Nov. 23), with preliminary heats at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.
