Milligan

The Milligan College swim team finished competing at the fourth annual Brenau Invitational on Saturday. This was the final meet of the fall semester.

Over this two-day event, the Buffaloes competed strongly with multiple top-16 finishes and some national qualifying times. The women's team had an exciting weekend. Kelsey Achin achieved her national 'B' cut time in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.38. Laura Ault qualified for nationals in the 100 backstroke with a 'B' time of 1:04.43. Sarah Walsh qualified in multiple events. She earned a 'B' cut in the 400 IM and an 'A' cut in the 200 butterfly.

Many of the team members also had significant time drops. Makenzie Bennett both had significant time drops in their respective 100 freestyle. Emily Mark and Ault also had time drops in the 100 freestyle. Brandi Hay performed well throughout all of her events, the highlight of which was completing her first 400 IM. Courtney Blair completed the 1650 (mile) with a time of 21:08:57 which is her best time of the season.

The men's team also had a busy weekend. Riley Lis competed in the 1650 and finished with his best time of the season which was 19:30.20. He also went on to place ninth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:27.44. Grant Callahan completed his 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.67. Brent Crosby finished ninth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:54.99. Luke Falasca competed in his specialty event, the 100 breaststroke and finished with a time of 1:11.78.

Overall, this was a very successful weekend for the Milligan College swim team. The combined Milligan score placed the Buffaloes sixth out of 10 teams. The women's team placed eighth out of 10, and the men placed sixth of six teams. The members of the team were overall pleased with their performances this weekend and are looking forward to continue competing next semester. They will be back in the pool Jan. 17 at Berry College.
