Westminster Sweeps Allegheny

The Westminster College swimming & diving teams kept their undefeated streaks alive with a clean sweep of the Allegheny College Gators on Saturday.

Both Titan teams improved to 3-0 overall. The men's team won 147-109 and the women's team won 168-128. The Allegheny men's team fell to 0-3 overall, while the women's team dropped to 1-2.

Westminster won a total of 17 events, led by the men's team with nine. The win total does not include one event in which the Titans used an exhibition swimmer.

First-year Mitch Stahara (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) and junior Matthew Baurle (Jeannette, PA / Penn Trafford) paved the way for the Titan men, picking up a pair of individual wins each. Stahara touched first in the 200 and 500 freestyle with times of 1:50.08 and 5:02.18, respectively. Baurle walked away with victories in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.67) and the 200 breaststroke (2:17.04). Stahara and Baurle were also triumphant in the 400 medley relay (3:37.64), teaming up with senior Steven Brooks (Boardman, OH / Boardman) and first-year Brad Kolesar (West Mifflin, PA / West Mifflin).  Brooks also won the 100 backstroke (52.97), while Kolesar clinched first in the 100 butterfly (55.65).

Senior Nicholas Smith (Indiana, PA / Indiana) and junior Austin Karper (Carlisle, PA / Carlisle) also tallied first-place points for the Titans with a win each. Smith won the 200 butterfly (1:59.35) and Karper won the 200 backstroke (2:03.67).

On the women's side, junior Kelsey Reott (Butler, PA / Slippery Rock) and sophomores Samantha Tower (Export, PA / Franklin Regional) and Anne Tillie (Fallston, MD / Fallston) secured first-place in two individual events each.  Reott was victorious in the 200 backstroke (2:14.10) and in the individual medley (2:19.09), while Tower won the 100 backstroke (1:10.93) and the 200 breaststroke (2:35.15). Tillie took the top spot in the 200 freestyle (2:01.90) and the 500 freestyle (5:27.02). The trio also made up the winning 400 medley relay team, along with senior Rebecca Mobley (Gibsonia, PA / Pine-Richland).

Senior Ashley Wyland (Pittsburgh, PA / Taylor Allderdice) also had a first-place victory as she won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:18.21.

The Titans will travel to Washington & Jefferson College on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. conference meet.
