200 Backstroke

Heat 1
Kip Darmody of Texas (49.04) leads at the 100 followed by Kack Murfree of Virginia (49.59). Darmody (1:40.20) crushes his season best, beating USC's Luca Spinazzola (1:42.66).

Heat 2
Stanford's Drew Cosgerea (49.65) leads Florida's Connor Signorin (50.21) at the 100. Cosgerea (1:41.42) tops Signorin (1:43.03) for the W.

Heat 3
Louisville freshman Aaron Greene (49.23) leads MIchigan senior Ryutaro Kamiya at the 100. UNC's Patrick Myers (1:42.04) jumps up to win over Kamiya (1:42.43) on the back half.

Heat 4
Tennessee's Sean Lehane (49.02) leads Ohio State's Connor McDonald (49.11) at the 100. Lehane (1:39.42) gets under 1:40 with N.C. State's Stephen Coetzer second (1:40.94).

Heat 5
Cal's Ryan Murphy (48.81) leads Penn State's Nate Savoy (49.03) at the 100. Murphy (1:39.16) wins it over Stanford's David Nolan (1:39.72). Cal takes first and third here with two Texas swimmers fourth and sixth in the all-important team battle.

Heat 6
Indiana's Eric Ress (48.18 blasts through the 100 with Jack Conger of Texas (48.94) behind him. Ress wins in 1:39.25 with Conger second (1:40.27).

Cal and Texas both get two swimmers up with Cal's Pebley qualifying eighth in 1:40.42. Texas also gets two swimmers in the B (Pat Murphy of Texas was ninth), firing the first big shot over the bow in the team competition. It took a 1:41 by Luke Papendick of Virginia to make a night swim.


100 Freestyle

Heat 1
Cal's Trent Williams (43.73) wins over teammate Shayne Fleming (43.81).

Heat 2
Tennessee's Sam Rairden wins wire-to-wire in 43.01 in a heat where half the swimmers scratched. Rairden, practically all alone, wins in lane 2 with swimmers gone in lane 1 and lanes 3-5.

Heat 3
Massive scratches again as five of the eight swimmers are gone. Auburn's James Disney-May (42.50) wins over USC's Dimitri Colupaev (43.25).

Heat 4
Only one scratch here with a big Texas field (three of the seven swimmers). They deliver with John Murray (41.77) and Matt Ellis (42.47) going one-two.

Heat 5
Alabama 50 free champ Kristian Gkolomeev (42.47) edges past Cal's Tyler Messerschmidt (42.50) on the back half to win this heat.

Heat 6
Louisville's Joao De Lucca (42.09) closes hard over the final 50 to win over Florida's Bradley Deborde (42.18).

Heat 7
Auburn's Marcelo (41.52) records the morning's fastest time, taking the win over USC's Cristian Quintero (42.11).

Kyle Darmody of Auburn is the eighth qualifier at 42.42 while Cal and Texas both get one up and one down in this event. B.J. Hornikel of Alabama qualified 16th at 42.53.


200 Breaststroke

Heat 1
Texas A&M's Simon Frank wins the heat in 1:57.56.

Heat 2
Cal's Chuck Katis (53.86) has the lead at the 100 followed by Imri Ganiel of Texas (54.43). Katis wins going away in 1:52.84 with Ganiel second (1:55.51).

Heat 3
Florida State's Jason Coombs (54.63) leads this heat at the 100 with Alabama's Pavel Romonov second (54.96). Romanov comes back to win in 1:55.38 followed by Coombs (1:55.85). Navy's Sean Murphy, the third-place finisher in this heat, was disqualified.

Heat 4
Purdue's Lyam Dias (53.95) leads Will Licon of Texas (54.19) at the 100. Georgia's Nic Fink torches the back half to win in 1:52.58 while Licon holds his spot for second (1:53.44).

Heat 5
Michigan's Richard Funk (54.03) leads Cal's Josh Prenot (54.43) at the 100. Alabama's Anton McKee (1:52.46) crushed the final 50, getting ahead of Funk (1:52.72) and Prenot (1:53.14).

Heat 6
Arizona's Kevin Cordes (53.39) cruises out to a lead over Missouri's Sam Tierney (53.68). Cordes wins in 1:50.44 with Indiana's Cody Miller moving up for second (1:51.85).

Cal makes a move with two in the big boy final while Texas manages only a single swimmer in the B. Missouri's Sam Tierney (1:53.42) grans the eighth spot while Wisconsin's Tom Schaefer grabs the 16th slot (1:54.34).


200 Butterfly

Heat 1
Arizona's Andrew Porter comes through the 100 in the lead (50.41). Porter wins in 1:46.14 with Wyoming's Ryan Nelson second (1:46.69).

Heat 2
Minnesota's Tyler Van Swol (48.14) leads at the 100 with Ohio State's Tamas Gercsak second (49.56). Van Swol wins in 1:43.37 while Arizona's Matt Barber creeps up for second in 1:43.58. Ohio State's Garrett Trebilcock is disqualified for a one-hand turn.

Heat 3
Cal's Marcin Tarczynski (48.87) is the leader through the 100 with Stanford's Tom Kremer second (1:49.01). Tarczynski (1:42.02) takes first with Kremer second (1:43.42).

Heat 4
Columbia's David Jakl (48.67) leads out of lane 8 over N.C. State's Christian McCurdy (1:48.90) at the 100. Michigan's Kyle Whitaker charges over the final 50 to tie McCurdy (1:42.53) while Jakl is third (1:43.25).

Heat 5
Florida Stae's Connor Knight is the leader at the 100 (48.82) but Florida's Marcin Cieslak roars back on the back half to win in 1:41.48. Teammate Sebastien Rousseau takes second (1:43.09) with Indiana's Steve Schmuhl third (1:43.10).

Heat 6
MIchigan's Dylan Bosch (47.90) is in the lead with Tripp Cooper of Texas (48.45) second at the 100. Bosch wins it in 1:40.67 while Arizona's Michael Meyer is second (1:42.76).

Cal gets one up and one down in this event while Texas is shut out. The Golden Bears may be opening up the lead they will need to stay competitive with the platform looming. Indian's Steve Schmuhl (1:43.10) grabs the eighth spot while Auburn's Arthur Mendes is 16th (1:43.49).


400 Freestyle Relay

Heat 1
Notre Dame (42.98) leads Virginia Tech (43.83) after the first leg. Wisconsin (1:26.62) takes the lead at the halfway point with VT still second (1:27.07). UNC (2:10.78) takes the lead going into the fourth leg with Wisconsin (2:10.91). UNC (2:55.22) wins over Notre Dame 2:55.22 with Virginia Tech third (2:55.24).

Heat 2
Louisville (42.55) takes the early lead with Georgia second (43). Georgia (1:25.81) takes over the lead with Michigan (1:26.12) moving up for second at the halfway point. Michigan (2:09.21) ascends to the lead with Louisville (2:09.50) now in second with one leg to go. USC's (2:52.04) steals the win over Michigan (2:52.21) with Louisville third (2:52.73).

Heat 3
Cal (42.82) jumps out to the lead with N.C. State second (42.82). Cal (1:24.90) continues to lead with the race halfway home. N.C. State (1:25.09) remains in second. Cal (2:08.26) is still leading with one leg to go as Alabama (2:08.82) moves into second. The GB's indeed win in 2:50.64 with N.C. State (2:51.13) moving back into second and the Tide third (2:51.30).

Heat 4
Bradley Deborde get the Gators (42.64) out to a lead over Tennessee (42.73) on the first leg. The Gators (1:25.15) maintain the lead over the Vols (1:25.94) with 200 to go. Florida (2:07.99) remains in front while Texas (2:08.63) has taken over second. Marcelo storms from behind to win it for Auburn (2:50.00) with Texas second (2:50.92) and Florida third (2:50.96). Minnesota is disqualified due to the first exchange.

Auburn grabs the top spot at 2:50.00 while USC is eighth (2:52.04). Penn State grabs the 16th and final spot (2:53.41). Both Cal and Texas qualify for the 'A' final. 

Cal comes out of the morning swims in a great spot with seven A swims and two B swims while Texas has four in each. All eyes head to the platform as the meet could very well hinge on this event...


Platform Diving 

Round 1
Duke's Nick McCrory is back in action after pulling out of the three-meter prelims midstream and he is back with a vengeance, taking the first round lead (78.40). Hawai'i's Amund Gisnervik (73.60) is second ahead of Auburn's John Santeiu, Tennessee's Mauricio Robles-Rodriguez, and Virginia Tech's Ryan Hawkins (72). Hawkins's teammate Thomas Shinholser (69) is sixth with MIssouri's David Bonuchi (68.40) and Kentucky's Greg Ferrucci and Arizona's Rafael Quintero (67.20) rounding out the top eight.

Round 2 
Quintero (159.70) takes the lead with Hawkins (155.20) second. McCrory (154.35), Gismervik (145.60), and Santeiu all slide two spots to third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. Bonuchi (138.80) holds his spot at sixth while Purdue's Nathan Cox (137.60) and springboard champ Michael Hixon (133.50) enter the top eight for the first time.

Round 3
McCrory (221.55) takes the lead back from Quintero (217.30) while Quintero's teammate Dominic Ricotta (206.55) comes from out of nowhere to move into third. Bonuchi (204.80) jumps two spots to fourth with Ferrucci (198.60) going from outside the top eight back up into a tie for fifth with Santeiu. Cox (190.40) and Hixon (187.75) remained seventh and eighth.

Round 4
McCrory (302.15) stretches out his lead over Quintero (294.10) a bit while Bonuchi (281.60) climbs from fourth to third. Ricotta (269.55) slides down a spot while Hixon (266.80) leaps from eighth to fifth. Shinholser (266.70) moves back in the top eight into the sixth position one spot ahead of teammate Hawkins (263.10). Ferrucci (261.60) slides from fifth to eighth. 

Round 5
McCrory (383.15) continues to stretch out his lead over Quintero (366.70) while Hixon (334) has moved up into third. Bonuchi (327.80) trades spots with the Longhorn freshman while Stanford's Kristian Ipsen (323.30) makes his way into the top eight for the first time at fifth. Hawkins (320.70) moves up one spot to sixth trading spots with Shinholser (317.85). Ricotta (317.60) tumbles from fourth to eighth entering the final round.

Round 6 
Three-time defending champion Nick McCrory (480.35) wins comfortably over Arizona's Rafael Quintero (455.10) and Missouri's David Bonuchi (417.90). Virginia Tech's Ryan Hawkins (407.10) climbs from sixth to fourth in the final round while Stanford's Kristian Ipsen (388.55) holds his fifth round spot of fifth place. Hawai'i's Amund Gismervik (384.15) found his way back in the top eight for the first time since round two to garb the No. 6 spot. Virginia Tech's Thomas Shinholser (383.10) and Michael Hixon of Texas (382) round out the top eight.

Qualifying for the consolation final are John Santeiu of Auburn, Mauricio Robles-Rodriguez of Tennessee, Dominc Ricotta of Arizona, Greg Ferrucci of Kentucky, Mark Anderson of Texas, J.B. Kolod of Virginia, Fraser McKean of Auburn, and Nathan Cox of Purdue.
