SMU won the 400-yard medley relay as seniors Nicolai Hansen and Ryan Koops, junior Matas Andriekus and freshman Ziga Cerkovnik finished with a time of 3:16.10, as the SMU men's swimming team competed on day one of the American Short Course Championships in Austin, Texas.
In the other relay on day one, the Mustangs finished third as senior Ramom Melo, Hansen, Koops and Cerkovnik clocked a time of 1:19.87 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Individually for SMU, Melo placed third while Koops finished 13th in the 50-yard freestyle as they clocked times of 19.77 and 20.35 seconds, respectively.
SMU returns to action tomorrow for day two of the American Short Course Championships in Austin, Texas. Preliminaries begin at 9:15 a.m. CT and finals for those events are slated to start at 6 p.m. CT.

Texas A&M sprinters Kyle Troskot and Cory Bolleter rewrote the school record book in the 50-yard freestyle with a series of eye-catching performances at the American Short Course Championships at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center on Thursday.
Troskot, a senior from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, took down the school standard and guaranteed his spot in the NCAA Championships with an “A” qualifying cut in a time of 19.32 in the morning prelims, while Bolleter, a sophomore from San Antonio, turned in the second-fastest time in school history with a lifetime best time of 19.41. Both Aggies bested the old school record of 19.44 set by John Dalton at the 2012 NCAA Championships.
In the evening finals, Bolleter went even faster as the touched the wall in an NCAA “B” cut time of 19.38 for the victory, while Troskot finished fourth in 19.83. Redshirt freshman Or Sabatier also turned in a lifetime best 20.01 to grab sixth.
The foursome of Bolleter, Troskot, Sabatier and senior Paul-Marc Schweitzer closed out the day with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:18.49.
