Bentley Sweeps Bridgewater State

Seventeen events were contested and members of the Bentley University men’s swimming and diving team captured them all as the Falcons finished their dual schedule with a 213.5-84.5 win at Bridgewater State University Tuesday night. The win boosted Bentley to 7-4 overall.
                
Sophomore Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS) was the only Falcon to win two individual events and he had his best meet of the season. He captured the one-meter diving with a 283.00 and posted a winning score of 275.20 from the three-meter board. Both were season-bests for Bridge, who is also a member of the Bentley men’s soccer team.
                
In the freestyle events, Bentley’s winners were junior Rene Faria (Caracas, Venezuela) in the 50 yards (22.48), sophomore Owen Karl (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton HS) in the 100 (50.42), sophomore Kevin Diefenbach (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert  HS) in the 200 (1:52.78), junior Luke Mason (Lowell/Lowell HS) in the 500 (5:20.43) and sophomore Alex Liulakis (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly HS) in the 1000 (11:12.91).
                
Backstroke events went to freshmen Gregory Coleman (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North HS) (100, 1:00.57) and Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/Lubbock HS) (200, 2:09.19). In the breaststroke, juniors Janco Cornelius (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield HS) (1:05.97) and Josh Witty (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos HS) (2:30.92) were the first to the wall in the 100 and 200, respectively.
                
Other winners were senior Peter Belanger (Andover/Andover HS) (200 individual medley, 2:09.64) and freshmen Matt Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J./Morris Plains HS) (200 butterfly, 2:07.32), Colin McCarthy (Glastonbury, Conn./Northwest Catholic HS) (100 fly, 57.90) and Jerrod Zimmer (Middletown, Conn./Middletown HS) (100 IM, 59.91).
                
Freshman Liam Bartlett (Syracuse, N.Y./William Nottingham HS) was part of both winning relays for the Falcons.
                
Next week, Bentley will compete in the four-day Northeast-10 Conference Championships at Southern Connecticut State, with action getting underway Thursday, Feb. 6.



Juniors Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS), sophomore All-America Nicola Mancini (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS) and freshmen Nicole Hellstern (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) and Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS) were all double-winners for the Bentley University women’s swimming and diving team Tuesday night, which closed out its dual schedule with a 154-128 win at Bridgewater State University.
                
Edwards posted a season-best time of 11:21.83 in the 1000 yard freestyle and also captured the 500 free in 5:30.90. McGahie picked up wins in the 100 breaststroke (58.14 seconds) and the 100 individual medley (1:03.99).
                
Hellstern’s wins came in the 100 free (58.14) and the 200 free (2:04.15). The 50 free went to her sister, Danielle, with the junior claiming the 50 free in 27.10.
                
Mancini kept her season-long winning streak intact, posting impressive scores of 286.95 (one meter) and 298.95 (three meter) to sweep the diving events.
                
Bentley’s list of winners also included senior Caroline Lewis (Westfield/Westfield HS) in the 100 backstroke (1:05.50) and a trio of sophomores: Lindsey Goodwin (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) in the 200 butterfly (2:34.56), Meg Pernsteiner (Highland Heights, Ohio/Hillcrest HS) in the 200 back (2:18.72) and Melissa Clauss (Oakland, N.J./Bergen County Academies) in the 100 fly (1:04.27).
                
Bentley, 9-2, will compete in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships Feb. 6-9 at Southern Connecticut State.
