Westminster Sweeps Saint Vincent

The Westminster College women's and men's swimming and diving teams broke eight pool records en route to a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) sweep at Saint Vincent on Saturday. The Titan men won 150-108, while the Titan women won 153-101.

The Titan men improved to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the PAC, while the Titan women improved to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference. The Bearcat women went to 5-5 overall and 3-2 in the league, while the Bearcat men dropped to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in PAC competition.

Each Titan team won 10 events, not including one event apiece where Westminster used exhibition swimmers.

The men's team broke five pool records. Junior Steven Brooks (Boardman, OH / Boardman) and sophomore Matthew Baurle (Jeannette, PA / Penn Trafford) broke two records each. Brooks won the 100-yard backstroke (51.34) and the 100-yard freestyle (48.00), while Baurle broke won the 100-yard breaststroke (58.68) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.02). Rounding out the record-breaking performances for the men was freshman Dan Pletz (Venetia, PA / Peters Township) who finished first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.75.

The women's team broke three pool records. Senior Amanda Marlow (Twinsburg, OH / Twinsburg) broke one record in the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.70) and was also part of the 200-yard medley relay team who set a new record with a time of 1:54.16. Completing the quartet were sophomore Kelsey Reott (Butler, PA / Slippery Rock), freshman Samantha Tower (Export, PA / Franklin Regional), and senior Carrie Whisel (Export, PA / Franklin Regional). Also breaking a pool record was senior Erin Erdley (Meadville, PA / Cochranton) who touched first in the 200-yard backstroke at
2:13.78.

Westminster will host Grove City in its PAC season finale next Thursday at 6 p.m.
