Bryant Sweeps St. Francis

Freshmen Taylor Poliseno (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.), Erin Daly (Reading, Mass.) and Meghan Claflin (Newburyport, Mass.) all won two events as the Bryant University women's swimming and diving team cruised to a 135-109 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday at the Chace Athletic Center.

With the victory, the Bulldogs (5-5) evened their record in dual meets on the season. Bryant is also 2-1 against Northeast Conference opponents this season.

The trio of freshmen were outstanding on Sunday. Poliseno won the 1000 free (11:03.80) and the 200 free (2:00.52), Daly won the 100 back (1:00.86) and the 100 free (55.34) and Claflin won the 200 back (2:15.19) and the 200 IM (2:15.40).

Bryant also received strong performances from a bevy of other swimmers. Senior Taylor DeBever (Denver, Colo.) won the 50 free (25.67), freshmen Samantha Torrez (Whittier, Calif.) won the 200 breast (2:31.33) and junior Caitlin Hanahoe (Eden Prairie, Minn.) won the 500 free (5:22.99).

The Bulldogs return to the pool next Friday as they travel to Providence to take on Brown.


Sophomores Joshua Bjornberg (Wallingford, Conn.) and Kevin Hong (Bridgewater, N.J.) each won a pair of events to lead the Bryant University men's swimming and diving team to a pair of victories over St. Francis Brooklyn and NJIT on Sunday morning at the Chace Athletic Center.

The Bulldogs defeated the Terriers, 156-106, and the Highlanders, 144-118, to improve their record to 3-4.

Bjornberg continued his stellar season with victories in the 100 breast (1:00.91) and the 200 breast (2:14.90), while Hong won the 200 back (2:01.71) and the 200 IM (2:01.76). Sophomore Andrew Neggia (Ramsey, N.J.) added a victory in the 200 fly (2:01.25).

The Bulldogs return to action this Friday as they travel to Providence to take on Brown.
