Westminster Swept By Carnegie Mellon, SUNY-Geneseo

The Westminster College men's and women's swimming & diving  teams had their undefeated seasons come to an end as both Titan teams lost to SUNY Geneseo and to Carnegie Mellon in a double dual meet at home for its senior recognition day on Saturday.

The Titan men (6-2) lost, 158-133, to Carnegie Mellon and, 165-134, to SUNY Geneseo. The Titan women (7-2) lost, 219-75, to Carnegie Mellon and, 201-93, to SUNY Geneseo.

For the men, Titan sophomore Matthew Baurle (Jeannette, PA / Penn Trafford) and junior Steven Brooks (Boardman, OH / Boardman) highlighted the day as both set a pool record. Baurle won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.40, breaking his own pool record from last year. Brooks won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:54.74, breaking a time of 1:54.98 that was set in 2011.

Baurle also won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.48), while Brooks touched first in the 100-yard backstroke (51:41).

Junior Jake Pletz (Venetia, PA / Peters Township) also picked up a pair of wins as he won the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.27) and the 100-yard freestyle (48.61).

For the women, senior Erin Erdley (Meadville, PA / Cochranton) placed first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:13.12.  Sophomore Kelsey Reott (Butler, PA / Slippery Rock) followed closely behind with a second-place finish (2:13.61). Also earning second-place for the women was freshman Anne Tillie (Fallston, MD / Fallston) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:59.02).   

Westminster will compete at Saint Vincent next Saturday at 1 p.m.
