Vermont Falls to Northeastern

Christa Weaver won two events for the Catamounts, but Vermont fell to Northeastern 190-110 in women's swimming and diving action Saturday afternoon at Forbush Natatorium. Northeastern improves to 5-5 on the season following the win, while Vermont falls to 7-5 after seeing its streak of six straight dual meet victories come to an end.

Weaver paced the Catamounts with two individual victories on the afternoon. The sophomore won the 200 free in a time of 1:55.53 and also took first-place in the 50 free in 24.76. Andie Blaser finished behind Weaver in second place in the 50 free after touching the wall in 25.25.

Weaver was also part of the relay squad, along with Courtney Gray, Blaser and Sarah Mantz, that closed out the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 free relay (1:39.11).

The Catamounts finished 2-3 in three different events. Weaver (53.03) and Katie Adams (55.15) finished second and third, respectively, in the 100 free. In the 200 breaststroke, Lauren Becker took second in 2:31.48, and Eva Wimberley finished third with a time of 2:34.64. The final 2-3 finish of the afternoon for Vermont came in the 200 back. Ilsa Feierabend finished runner-up (2:07.21), and Elena Melloni clocked in at 2:10.19 to collect a third-place finish. Feierabend was also Vermont's top finisher in the 100 back, registering a second-place showing (59.59).

Senior Rebecca Schreiber led the way for Vermont in the diving portion, collecting the highest scores for the Catamounts in both events. Schreiber scored 203.05 in the 1-meter and posted a score of 232.70 in the 3-meter to earn third-place in each event.

The Catamounts return to action on Sunday (Jan. 19) as they host Dartmouth in their final home meet of the season. Emily Alexander, Marcella Melloni, Rebecca Schreiber, Taylor Slone and Eva Wimberley will celebrate Senior Day and will be honored with a ceremony prior to the start of the meet.
