USMMA Sinks Coast Guard

The USMMA men's swimming and diving team defeated arch rival Coast Guard Saturday afternoon at O'Hara Pool, 183.5-110.5.   The Mariners touched first in 10 of the 16 total races, including three wins from junior Kevin Lindgren (Palm City, FL).  Lindgren took the top spot in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, and the 100 butterfly.

"This was a great victory for our team," said Head Coach Sean Tedesco.  "I'm really proud of our performance and look forward to getting ready for Championships in a few weeks."

Freshman Joshua Jepsen (San Diego, CA) claimed victory in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:00.32.  The rookie also had strong swims in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM where he placed second and third, respectively.  USMMA swept the diving events with Ryan Mavity (St. Joseph, MI) winning the 3-meter and William Porter (Houston, TX) taking the 1-meter.

The day started off with the team of Lindgren, Karl Sasse (Frederick, MD), Stone Hewitt (Destin, FL), and Austin Butt (Westminster, MD) edging out the Bears in the 200 medley relay.  Hewitt and Sasse also went one-two in the 100 breaststroke.  Sasse picked up his own individual win in the 200 breaststroke, clocking in at 2:12.19.  Alvaro Brice (The Woodlands, TX) notched a time of 1:45.78, pulling away in the final 50 yards to win the 200 freestyle.

Merchant Marine is now a perfect 6-0 in dual meets this season and will face York and Old Westbury at O'Hara Pool Thursday night.
