College of Charleston Sweeps SCAD

College of Charleston’s men’s and women’s swimming teams picked up a sweep of Savannah College of Art & Design on the road on Saturday.
 
The women’s team continued its impressive streak of meet victories, posting a resounding 172-84 victory. The men’s took a 147.50-112.50 victory over the host Bee swimmers. The Cougars took nine first-place finishes in the women’s events and six titles on the men’s side to come away with the dual decision.
 
The women’s swimmers were dominant in the freestyle events with juniors Sarah Graif and Mary Frances Babrowicz posting top finishes. Graif won the 50 free (24.39), 100 free (53.12) and 200 free (1:56.83) with Babrowicz coming in second, right behind her in all three events.
 
Senior Sarah Boyle picked up first-place finishes in the 200 backstroke (2:10.58) and 100 butterfly (58.78), and finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:00.90) with Madison Tarleton right behind her (1:03.23).
 
Sophomore Maly Taylor won the 200 butterfly (2:10.52) and placed second in the 100 butterfly (59.54). Sophomore Taylor Hollingsworth had a strong day, winning the 100 breaststroke (1:07.66) and finishing second in the 200 breast (2:29.84). She swapped spots with Liz Mooney in both events as Mooney won the 200 breast (2:29.48) and was second in the 100 breast (1:10.41).
 
Lydia Renn and Skye Reeder picked up points in the distance races, finishing second and third in the 1000 free and 500 free. Michelle Whitfield placed second in the 400 IM (4:40.21).
 
On the men’s side, sophomore Jake Gregory was dominant in the distance events by capturing titles in the 1000 free (9:46.70) and 500 free (4:43.63).  
 
Freshman Will Ryan won the 100 breaststroke (1:00.23) and the 200 breaststroke (2:10.21), while also taking second place in the 400 IM (4:12.96). Senior Patrick Foos added points with a second-place finish in the 200 breast (2:12.23).
 
Junior Pablo Ortiz rounded out the individual event titles with his first-place finish in the 200 butterfly (1:55.16).
 
Sophomore Alex Wood was the top Cougar swimmer in the freestyle events, taking second in the 200 free (1:43.73), second in the 50 free (21.47) and third in the 100 free (47.28).
 
Freshman Cason Brown took second in the 100 back (52.61), Elijah Bohon was second in the 200 back (1:54.67) and Buckley Powell was second in the 100 butterfly (51.15).
 
The women won the 4x50-yard medley relay, led by Boyle, Hollingsworth, Taylor and Jayme Groth to a time of 1:51.11. The men tied for first in the 4x50 freestyle relay with Wood, Bohon, Dave Sherrier and Greg Karel, while they took second in the 4x50 medley.
 
Up in Clemson, the women’s divers competed against Western Kentucky and the host Tigers. Sophomore Megan Norton finished ninth in the three-meter dive (218.95) and 11th in the 1-meter dive (209.45). Junior Nicole DeMarco was 14th (195.00) and 15th (178.15), respectively, trailed by Tess Shacknow and Sara Weddington.
 
College of Charleston will have a week off before traveling to Gardner-Webb on Jan. 31.
