With endless sunshine and consistently warm weather San Diego is a
popular winter training spot for college teams. NCAA rules require
those teams to compete in a meet, many of which are largely
exhibitions. Not so for UC-San Diego which swam multi-team meets that
lifted the Tritons to the top spot of the Endless Pools/Swimming.com
Division II Top 25. UCSD easily out-distanced Wayne State on the
women's side and Lindenwood on the men's.
The rest of the women's top ten included Queens University of Charlotte,
Grand Valley, Delta State, CSU-East Bay, Lindenwood, West Florida,
Lewis and Indianapolis. For the men's, Grand Valley ranked third,
followed by Wayne State, Indianapolis, Queens, Southern Connecticut,
Missouri S&T, Florida Tech and Delta State.
Only thirty-five of the eighty-two Division II programs swam qualifying meets during the December
18-January 12 ranking period. Those absent from the rankings include several traditional
Division II powers - namely Drury, West Chester, Wingate, Tampa and Nova
Southeastern. were idle or swam off lineups.
The
Endless Pools/CollegeSwimming.com is the only objective ranking of
swimming for NCAA Divisions I, II, and
III, NAIA, and NJCAA. The rankings utilize a point system based on
NCAA time standards, predicted qualifying times and percentile rankings
from the past four season.
