Men's Swimming Splits Weekend Meets

FROSTBURG, Md. – Late Friday evening, Frostburg State men's swim team captured a 103-87 win over Pitt-Bradford. Later on in the weekend, the men's team fell to Davis & Elkins 155-48, Saturday afternoon.

On Friday, sophomore Jon Shepard along with seniors Vince Faiella and Drake Dobish secured first, second, and third place as they took over the 200-yard freestyle finishing in times of 2:01.66, 2:08.74, and 2:13.34, respectively.  Shepard later captured another win for the bobcats in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:03.48.

Senior Jesse Gregory jumped in the water taking hold of first place in the 50-yard freestyle finishing at 24.27. He later took first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.69), with freshman Aleksandar Combs close behind for the second-place finish of 1:03.11.

Gregory and Faiella teamed up to take any hopes of first or second place from Pitt-Bradford in the 100-yard freestyle. Gregory took first at 55.59, and Faiella touched the wall after him at 57.52. 

Seniors Drake Dobish, Vincent Faiella, and Jesse Gregory have left big shoes to fill as leaders for the Frostburg State men's swim team. This Saturday afternoon the seniors competed in their final home meet of their college careers.

Out of ten events, the men had a total of ten top-three finishes. Junior Jacob Aylward took second place in the 800-meter free (10:23.56), with junior Brian Sentz following close behind for third place.

Gregory captured second place in the 100-meter free, finishing in 1:00.25. Later he placed third in the 50-meter freestyle (26.75). Shepard went on to secure second place in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:11.27), and a third-place finish in the 200-meter IM, finishing in 2:27.46. Combs held his own in the water as he too finished in third in the 100-meter butterfly (1:09.86)

The men are back in the pool on January 15th against Bethany at 6:00 pm.
