UCLA Diving Invite Recaps: Day 1

Cal Men

Sophomore Peter Cyr had the top performance for the Cal men’s diving squad Friday (Jan. 10) at the Bruin Diving Invitational in Los Angeles, placing fourth in the three-meter board. Cyr, from Hamden, Conn., led the Golden Bear contingent and had one of the best results of his college career, finished with a score of 621.95 in the three-meter competition after tallying a mark of 298.00 in the prelims.

Other Cal competitors included seniors Tyler Pullen and team captain Grayson Huston. Pullen placed seven with a total score of 601.70 (293.40 in prelims), while Huston was 10th with a score of 499.85 (226.00).

Coach Todd Mulzet’s divers will next compete in the one-meter competition on Saturday, followed by the platform on Sunday. The Bears are competing against divers from UCLA, USC, Utah, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly and Wisconsin.


Fresno State

Hannah Prigge led the Fresno State dive team on Friday afternoon at the UCLA Diving Invitational with an eighth place finish in the 1-Meter
 
The senior from Rocklin, who entered the meet as the Mountain West Conference’s top-ranked 1-Meter diver, posted a score of 510.40 to garner the top ten finish in a finals field of 18 divers that had 15 come from Pac-12 schools. Prigge entered the finals in 6th after posting a score of 256.50 in the preliminary round.
 
USC’s Haley Ishimatsu won the event by posting a 590.90.
 
Sophomore Lacie Ruth finished in 24th with a score of 202.30. Freshman Noelle Farrer finished in 37th (164.75) and Shelbie Holden finished in 40th (69.50).


USC

The men’s and women’s diving teams had a successful day one of the Bruin Diving Invitational at the Spieker Aquatics Center in Westwood, Calif., on Friday (Jan. 10).
 
Redshirt junior Haley Ishimatsu took first in the 1-Meter competition with a total score of 590.90, after also taking first in the prelims. Sophomore Natalie Kalibat finished 10th overall with a score of 487.20, with sophomore Sam Adams finishing next to take 11th place (487.20). Sophomore Katherine Van Winkle also made the finals for the Women of Troy, placing 16th overall (435.20).
 
The Trojans also took home first in the men’s 3-Meter competition, as sophomore Collin Pollard, who also won the prelims, finished atop the standing with a score of 722.75. Sophomore Adam Payne rounded out the top five in 3-Meter, finishing with a score of 606.80.
 
The Bruin Diving Invitational continues Saturday at 11 a.m. with the women's 3-Meter and the men's 1-Meter competitions.
