Akron Women Remain On Top at MAC Meet

Akron remains in the lead after Friday’s second session of the 2014 Mid-American Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The Zips have tallied a total of 346 points after two days of competition. Miami follows in second with 308 points, while Bowling Green is in third with 290 points.
 
Akron took home the Women’s 200 Medley Relay to start things off on Friday. The team of Kelsey Ferrante, Kendra Colby, Erin Seller & Hannah Raspopvich finished the race in a time of 1:39.69. Buffalo took home second place in 1:40.67, while Ball State placed third after finishing in 1:41.16.
 
Buffalo’s Spencer Rodriguez brought home the 400 yard IM title in a time of 4:17.21, while Ohio’s Addy Ferguson finished first in the 100 yard Fly with a new pool record time of 53.48.
 
UB’s Brittney Kuras took home the 200 yard Free title with a pool record time of 1:47.24. Kuras’ teammate Jessica Powers took home second place (1:48.24), while Bowling Green’s Victoria Griffin finished third in 1:49.10. 
 
In other action, Ball State’s Bridgette Ruehl won the 100 yard Breast in a pool record time of 1:01.13. The final individual race of the night was claimed by Ohio's Ferguson, who won the 100 yard Back in a Mid-American Conference & MAC Championship Record time of 53.10.
 
The 3-meter diving title was won by Akron's Carla McNamara with a total of 313.00 points. The Zips swept the top three spots as McNamara's teammates Alice Hottensmith took second place (305.35), while Paige Kelkenberg finished in third (269.10).
 
The night concluded with Buffalo claiming the 800 yard Free Relay title. The team of Rodriguez, Powers, Kuras & Brittney Walters finished in a new pool record time of 7:17.35. Bowling Green followed the Bulls in second (7:20.05), while Akron came in third at 7:23.67. 
 
The #MACtion continues Saturday with a preliminary session set for 11 a.m. ET to be followed by finals at 7 p.m.
