Six Conference USA Swimmers Named to All-Academic Team

Six Conference USA women's swimming and diving student-athletes have been named to the 2013-14 C-USA All-Academic Team, as voted by the league's sports information directors. Nominees must hold a minimum 3.2 GPA and be a regular participant for her team.

Taylor Edwards - East Carolina, Sr., Mason, Ohio, 3.99 GPA in Health Education and Promotion

Edwards posted a season-best 251.10 points on the one-meter springboard against the College of Charleston, while her season-high score in the three-meter event (250.58) came against UNC Wilmington. The senior also earned medalist honors in the N.C. Collegiate Kick-Off as well as the tri-meet with UMBC and Catawba. A health education and promotion major, Edwards is a C-USA Academic Medalist and a C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll member.

Katie Kramer - Marshall, Jr., Naples, Fla., 3.91 GPA in Economics

An economics major, Kramer is set to graduate in three years and will walk across the stage this spring before starting her MBA program in the fall. Kramer was awarded the Marshall University Yeager Scholar, the highest scholarship offered by the university, and studied abroad at Oxford University in England. In addition, the junior is two-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient and Commissioner's Honor Roll member.

Krista Rossum - North Texas, Jr., Winnipeg, Canada, 3.929 GPA in Biochemistry

Rossum has earned first-place finishes in the 400 IM in dual meets against Houston and Tulane. She set a school record and earned runner-up honors in the same event at the University of Houston Invite, touching the wall in an NCAA B time of 4:18.39. The all-round swimmer has also topped the medal stand in 200 IM against Rice and Tulane, and set another school-mark at the U of H Invite with her 2:00.98 (NCAA B) third-place swim. The junior biochemistry major has also picked up wins in the 200 breaststroke (Houston, Rice, Tulane), 100 breast (TCU) and 200 free (Tulane). 
 
Mona Groteguth - North Texas, Jr., Springe, Germany, 3.923 GPA in Psychology
Groteguth joins teammate Rossum as an all-academic member and an NCAA B qualifier. The junior won the 100 back at the University of Houston Invite (54.30, NCAA B) and in a dual meet against Tulane. The backstroke specialist had the winning time in the 200 event at the U of H Invite with a school-record 1:56.62 (NCAA B). Groteguth also won 200 back in dual meets against Houston and Tulane. She maintains a 3.923 GPA as a psychology major.

Rachel Eckert - Old Dominion, Jr., Rochester, N.Y., 3.39 GPA in Exercise Science

Eckert holds the second-best Conference USA mark in the three-meter dive with 308.03 points to qualify for NCAA Zone Diving. The junior exercise science major also received Zone marks in the one-meter event, scoring 280.65 in a tri-meet against Marshall and Radford. Eckert has claimed top honors in the three-meter in every dual meet this season and all but one time in the one-meter.

Quincy Christian - Rice, Sr., Granite Bay, Calif., 3.81 GPA in Political Science

Christian is a three-time defending Conference USA champion in the 400-individual medley and owns the second-best time in the league this season with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:17.80. The senior ranks third in the conference in the 500 freestyle (4:49.95), fifth in the mile (16:45.34) and ninth in the 200 IM. A political science major, Christian is a member of the Rice University Presidents Honor Roll, the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, a two-time C-USA Academic Medal recipient and a Rice Honor Athlete.

The 2014 Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championship begins today, Feb. 26, in Atlanta. The three-and-a-half-day event will be held at the Georgia Tech Campus Recreation Center, site of the 1996 XXVI Summer Olympic Games. Finals will be held Saturday, March 1.
