By Brian Kuppelweuer

The 2014 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Swimming Championship is set to begin Wednesday, February 26 and continue through Saturday, March 1, at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.

Virginia, which is in search of its seventh consecutive ACC title, finished the regular season with a 1-3 mark in conference competition. The Cavaliers are led by first-year head coach Augie Busch, who also led the Cavalier women to their seventh consecutive league title last week. UVa enters the Championship ranked No. 20 in the most recent CSCAA poll.

Virginia Tech, ranked No. 15, finished the regular season tied atop of the standings with a perfect 5-0 mark in conference competition. At last year’s Championship, the Hokies were the runner-up, followed closely by North Carolina. The Tar Heels finished the regular season with a 3-1 mark in conference action and enter as the league’s highest ranked team at No. 14.

Rounding out the group of five teams that enter the Championship ranked are No. 18 NC State and No. 19 Florida State. The Wolfpack finished the regular with a 3-3 record in ACC competition, while the Seminoles had a perfect 2-0 ledger that tied them at the top of the standings with the Hokies. Florida State finished the 2013 championship in fourth place, while NC State closed out the top five with a fifth-place finish.

One change of note in this year’s Championship is the addition of the scoring of all 24 competitors competing in a swimming final. In previous years, only the top 16 competitors received points that counted toward their team’s total.
