UMass Men, Richmond Women Lead Atlantic-10's

The Massachusetts men hold a narrow lead with 243 points, while the Richmond women lead with 236.5 points after two days of competition at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships.

The Minutemen continue to sit on top of the A-10 standings, maintaining a one point lead over defending champions St. Bonaventure. UMass was led this evening by sophomore Alex Bomprezzi, who recorded a first place finish and an NCAA “B” Cut time of 4:24.85.
 
The Bonnies were led by a handful of A-10 Championship record setting performances from junior Ripley Danner in the 200-yd individual medley (1:48.16), senior Jimmy Martin in the 50-yard freestyle (19.90) and the St. Bonaventure 200-yd freestyle relay team consisting of Michael Pilyugin, Viacheslav Shchukin, David Paccapaniccia and Jimmy Martin (1:18.48)
 
Following Massachusetts and St. Bonaventure in the standings after day two of competition are George Mason (178), La Salle (172), George Washington (142), Fordham (133) and Saint Louis (128).
 
The Spiders continue to lead on the women’s side after senior Mali Kobelja won gold in the 200-yd individual medley with a time of 2:00.46. The Spider relay team consisting of Kobelja, Laura Jordan, Natalya Ares and Kelley Yang also took home gold in the 200-yd freestyle relay (1:32.83)
 
Massachusetts currently sits in second place with a total of 159 points. The Minutewomen were dominant in the women’s 1-meter dive as they swept the medals and were led by senior Michaela Butler’s pool record breaking performance of 315.65.  Sophomore Mac Eckhardt (279.50) and freshman Julia Jagannath (255.10) captured silver and bronze, respectively.
 
Following Richmond and Massachusetts in pursuit of the A-10 title are Fordham (156), George Mason (150), La Salle (145), Duquesne (138.5), Rhode Island (129), St. Bonaventure (112), George Washington (103.5) and Saint Louis (66.5)
 
Action resumes tomorrow morning with the preliminary events beginning at 10:30 am and finals at 6:30 pm.
