The 2014 America East Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship is slated to begin Thursday, February 13th at 5:00 p.m. kicking off with the one-meter preliminaries. Tickets are available for purchase at the door, with adults costing $10.00, 14 and under $5.00 and students with an ID will be admitted for $2.00. The championship will culminate on Sunday evening with the awards ceremony.
Binghamton
· The Bearcats ended their regular season on a high note with a victory over Marist.
· Caitlin Kelly was named the final AE Swimmer of the Week for 2013-14, while teammate Kim Robertson grabbed the recognition in week nine.
· Kelly (50-free) and Corrine Zotter (100 breast) currently hold down the best times among league swimmers, clocking in at 23.47 and 1:03.91, in their respective events.
· Lauren Flower tops all America East competitors in the 1650 free by over 30 seconds.
· Went 4-2 in dual meets this season.
Maine
· Touts a leadership filled squad with eight of its members graduating this spring.
· Kara Capossela has been solid on the boards, grabbing three Diver of the Week honors while tying for second in the one-meter (six dives) and three meter (six dives) among league divers.
· Naja Harvey and Shannon Bender have each made appearances in the Black Bear record book since 2012. Bender currently holds five spots, while Harvey has four individual and three relay.
UMBC
· Aim to climb back up the ladder as they were slated runners up for the third-straight year after having won in 2007, 2008 and 2011.
· Senior Talor Tadena took home a pair of wins in last year’s championship and has three first-place and two second-place finishes. Was named AE Swimmer of the Week, Nov. 5 and tops AE swimmers in the 100 free and 50 fly.
· Newcomer Emily Escobedo has been a factor for UMBC in the pool in her first season with the Retrievers as she has won seven of her eight events this season, finishing second in the only race that she was not victorious.
· The Retrievers will look to three-time Diver of the Week winner Corrina Darelius to dominate the boards.
· Darelius qualified for the NCAA zones earlier this year for the second consecutive season.
New Hampshire
· Vies for its second-straight conference championship crown and sixth title overall.
· Prior to last year’s victory, the Wildcats had not taken home a first-place trophy since 2006.
· Returns two Most Outstanding Swimmers from the past two championships in Jenni Roberts (2013) and Katie Mann (2012).
· Of the 18 events, New Hampshire swimmers rank first in 10 of them. They also have the top-score in the three-meter (five dives) event.
· Roberts was recognized as the America East Swimmer of the Week twice this season and was also honored as the CollegeSwimming.com Swimmer of the Week (Jan. 29). She took home the gold in three championship events last year and currently ranks in the league’s top five for several events, including the 100 back, 200 free and 200 IM.
· Additional top-ranking performers for the Wildcats include Katie Mann (200 breast, 400 IM), Oneida Cooper (500 free, 50 back, 100 fly) and Lauren McCandless (1000 free, 200 fly).
· The Wildcats Currently rank 20th in the CollegeSwimming Mid-Major Top 25 poll.
Vermont
· Features 2013 Most Outstanding Rookie Christina Weaver, who has been named AE Swimmer of the Week three times this season. She was the only freshman to finish among the top-20 points leaders in last year’s championship.
· Tied for a program-best championship finish last year in third place, tallying 548 points.
· Weaver was one of three Catamounts to earn all-conference honors last season.
· The team shattered a combination of program and freshman records at the meet for a total of eight marks.
· Rebecca Schreiber and Maggie Preston were recognized as Divers of the Week in 2013-14.
· Catamounts own top-times among conference members in four individual events.
