Following two days of action at the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University, Assumption College holds a 67-point lead in the women’s team standings, while So. Connecticut holds a commanding lead in the men’s standings.

New Northeast-10 records were set in each of Friday night’s 50 freestyle events, as Pace University grad student Kaitlyn Lynch set the new women’s benchmark with a time of 24.17, taking down So. Connecticut’s Kristen Frost and her 2008 performance.

So. Connecticut sophomore Brendan Murphy (video below) then followed up by setting the new Northeast-10 men’s 50 freestyle record with a time of 20.45. That standard broke former So. Connecticut swimmer Miguel Nesrala’s mark, and also tied the Hutchison Natatorium pool record, previously set by former Owls great Ben Michaelson.

In the final event of the night, So. Connecticut took both the women’s and men’s 400 medley relays. The foursome of freshman Christian Berg, junior Raymond Cswerko, junior Dan Elliot and Murphy set a new Northeast-10 record with a time of 3:20.61, shattering the previous record of 3:24.53.

In the women’s 400 medley relay, the Owls quartet of junior Rachel Smolensky, seniors Elizabeth Hess and Anna Pleban and freshman Katie Krajcik won the A-final with a time of 3:53.73.

Assumption senior Monique Haney took first in the women’s 500 freestyle A-final for the second straight year, winning it this winter in 5:07.59. In the men’s 500 freestyle, So. Connecticut freshman Dylan Swanepoel won the heat with a time of 4:38.16, a top-five in Northeast-10 Championship history.

In the women’s 200 IM, Bentley senior Amanda Le captured the A-final with a time of 2:09.07, while Pace senior Dogus Akay won the men’s 200 IM in 1:52.61. Akay’s time was second in Northeast-10 Championship history in the event.

Bentley sophomore diver Nicola Mancini, fresh off her second straight Northeast-10 women's 1-meter title on Thursday night, took first place in the women’s 3-meter prelims on Friday afternoon with a score of 428.90.

So. Connecticut junior Jessica Renzo was second at 403.95, while Pace University sophomore Jenny Palladino came in third with a score of 393.95. The women's 3-meter finals will take place Saturday night at 6:00 p.m.

Saturday’s action will include the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle relay. The men will have their 3-meter diving prelims after morning trials, and the women will carry out their 3-meter diving finals competition to kick off the evening session at 6:00 p.m.
