College of Charleston Splits With Gardner-Webb

The College of Charleston swimming teams split a two-day dual meet at Gardner-Webb over the weekend.
 
Competing against a former CCSA opponent, the Cougar men’s team won a 187-128 decision, while the women lost 173-142. In a 17-event meet, the CofC men won 11 events while the women took first in seven events.
 
While the swimmers competed at Gardner-Webb, CofC’s divers traveled to Clemson where they competed against the Tigers.
 
On the men’s side, sophomore Elijah Bohon posted a strong meet, winning the 200 backstroke (1:54.20), the 100 backstroke (52.21) and swimming a leg of the first-place 200 free relay.
 
Freshman Will Ryan continued his strong spring with wins in the 200 breaststroke (2:07.36) and the 400 IM (4:09.53), while coming in second place in the 100 breaststroke (59.05). Sophomore Alex Wood won the 100 free (47.37) and the 50 free (21.51).
 
Sophomore Jake Gregory and freshman Buckley Powell rounded out the rest of the men’s individual event winners as Gregory won the 500 free (4:43.49) and Powell took first in the 100 butterfly (51.42). Gregory also added a second-place finish in the 100 free (9:45.26), while Pablo Ortiz, Patrick Foos and Dave Sherrier took second in the 200 fly (1:55.58) 200 IM (1:58.85) and 200 free (1:44.54), respectively.
 
In the relays, the men took first in the 200 free, 400 free, 400 medley and second in the 200 medley.
 
On the women’s side, senior Sarah Boyle won two events in the 200 IM (2:09.27) and 100 back (58.29). She also finished third (2:07.62) in the 200 back.
 
Lydia Renn secured a number of points for the Cougars with a win in the 1000 free (10:53.33) and a second-place finish in the 500 free (5:15).
 
Junior Mary Frances Babrowicz won the 100 freestyle race (53.25), and placed second in the 200 free (58.68), along with leading off both of CofC’s first-place freestyle relays.
 
Sophomore Maly Taylor tallied two third-place finishes in the 200 fly (2:09.64) and the 100 fly (58.68), while Sarah Graif and Taylor Hollingsworth picked up second-place results in the 50 free (24.53) and 100 breaststroke (1:07.64), respectively.
 
In diving action at Clemson, sophomore Megan Norton led the diving corps with 11th-place finishes in both the three-meter (229.75) and one-meter (207.35) events.
 
College of Charleston will have one final tune-up at North Carolina next weekend, before the CAA Championships on Feb. 26.
