Georgia Tech Splits With Florida Atlantic, Women Fall to Florida Gulf Coast

The Georgia Tech swimming & diving teams were in action Friday in Ft. Myers, Fla., battling both Florida Gulf Coast and Florida Atlantic. The Yellow Jacket men defeated FAU, led by strong efforts from Andrew Kosic, Mark Sarman and Yuval Safra.

The men improved to 6-3 overall by rolling past FAU, 166-39. The women (5-7) dropped a narrow 134-103 decision to Florida Atlantic and fell 183-54 to Florida Gulf Coast.

The Jackets remain in Ft. Myers to battle Cincinnati at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Men’s Highlights

·         Tech won both relays, with Brian Woodbury, Mark Sarman, Ben Southern and Youssef Hammoud teaming on the 200 medley relay (1:32.53).

·         Andrew Kosic, Andrew Chetcuti, Taylor Wilson and Noah Harasz won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:23.30.

·         Kosic won a pair of individual events, achieving NCAA B-cuts in the 50 free (20.02) and the 100 fly (48.13).

·         Sarman was also victorious in two events, taking the 200 IM (1:53.56) and the 100 breast (56.86).

·         Yuval Safra claimed both distance events, winning the 1,000 free (9:21.45) and the 500 free (4:36.46).

 

Women’s Highlights

·         Chiara Ruiu, Xanna Tracy, Kira de Bruyn and Erika Staskevicius finished second in 200 free relay, putting down a time of 1:38.17.

·         Ruiu swam to a third-place finish in 200 free (1:53.82).

·         Efrat Rotsztejn recorded two second-place finishes -- 200 IM (2:09.53) and 100 breast (1:06.21).

·         de Bruyn placed third in 100 fly in a time of 58.24.
