Northern Arizona's Geiger Wins WAC Diver of the Week

For the second straight week and third time this season, the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team features the Western Athletic Conference’s Women’s Diver of the Week. For her efforts this past weekend in Las Vegas at the UNLV Invitational, sophomore Alexa Geiger was named the conference’s top diver marking the second Diver of the Week nod of her career.

The NAU divers were the class of the UNLV Invite by placing all four of its divers in the top eight championship final in both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions. Geiger was the group’s top performer, winning both events as part of the Lumberjacks’ third-place performance at the meet as a team.

The Fullerton, Calif. native went wire-to-wire in both of her victories, placing first in the preliminaries before finishing first overall in the finals. To open the meet on Saturday, Geiger posted a finals score of 279.00 to win the 3-meter competition. She followed with a win on the 1-meter board on Sunday, increasing her prelim-best score of 258.35 by nearly 30 points in the finals to post a winning score of 287.10 to complete her perfect weekend.

Her 1-meter score is the top score of any NAU diver this season. She also reset both of her season-best scores with her performances this weekend.

The Lumberjacks will compete this Saturday in San Diego, Calif. against the University of San Diego. The dual meet will start at 12:30 p.m. Flagstaff time.
