Earhart Begins at Arizona State

Greg Earhart was named associate head coach for Sun Devil swimming, head coach Dorsey Tierney-Walker announced today. Earhart was previously the head men’s swimming coach at Carthage College before accepting the position at Arizona State.

“Greg is an incredible talent and will be a valuable asset to Sun Devil swimming,” said Tierney-Walker. “His strengths both in coaching, recruiting, and his intangible skill set will elevate the program to the next level in the Pac-12 and at NCAA Championships.”

Tierney-Walker and Earhart previously coached together at Indiana, where the pair helped the Hoosiers break every school record. The two coaches also led Indiana’s swimmers to 24 All-American honors in Earhart’s six years with the program.

During his time at Carthage, Earhart led the program to five of its six CCIW Championships with swimmers setting 15 conference records. Earhart revived the program by producing the team’s first All-Americans (25 total) in over 25 years. With the Red Men, he produced 31 CSCAA Academic All-Americans, three CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine All-Americans, and one NCAA Postgraduate scholarship recipient. Earhart, also helped establish Carthage’s swimming endowment, fourth-largest among Carthage’s 24 sports.

“Since making the decision to come to Tempe, I’ve been getting more and more excited everyday,” said Earhart. “Ask anyone about Dorsey and they will tell you she is one of the best coaches in the country. Take [Dorsey], Mark [Bradshaw], Dan [Kessler], and Shane [Pelton], we can build Arizona State into more than a winning program.”

Known as a leading advocate for college swimming having volunteered with USA Swimming, Wisconsin Swimming, and the CSCAA. Earhart, is also known for creating CollegeSwimming.com, the leading source of news and information on collegiate swimming.

“I love the team at Carthage and the school has done so much for me,” said Earhart of his past team. “I could have easily retired there, but I’m leaving the program in a very good position and couldn’t be more excited to start a new chapter at ASU.”

“This is a good move for Greg and great hire by Dorsey. Greg will be a tremendous addition to the ASU program.  He brings class, knowledge and a great work ethic."

Kelly Kremer, University of Minnesota
“I am very happy for Dorsey to have the opportunity to reunite with Greg Earhart at ASU. Greg is an outstanding recruiter, he's as organized as a coach could be, and his passion for swimming is evident in all he has done for this sport. He and Dorsey make a great team, and ASU Swimming and Diving will be the beneficiary.”

Bill Dorrenkott, Ohio State University
"It has been my good fortune to know Greg Earhart as both a professional and as a friend for close to twenty years. He is an excellent coach but an even better person. His human qualities give him an edge in working with today's young people. He relates well to athletes and values their student-athlete experience. Greg and Dorsey made a formidable duo at Indiana and will undoubtedly bring out the best in each other in Tempe."

Bob Groseth, SwimMac Carolina, Northwestern University (Ret.)
“Great hire. Greg is known for his organizational skills and eye for talent and has proven himself at Carthage to be one of the Nation’s best coaches. Hiring Greg is just what ASU needed to reach the next level. Watch out swimming world, here they come."
