Hilferty Joins Bloomsburg Staff

Bloomsburg University alumna Bridget Hilferty has joined the staff as Assistant Men's and Women's Swimming Coach, Director of Athletics Mike McFarland announced. Hilferty joins the staff as a full-time assistant after serving as a volunteer assistant during the 2013-14 season.

As a four-year performer for the Huskies, Hilferty was a dominant force in the distance freestyle events, earning NCAA Honorable Mention All-American honors in the 1000 and 1650 in 2012.  She was also a perennial top eight finalist at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships during her years as a Huskies student-athlete.

A native of Royersford, Pa., Hilferty is currently a school record holder in the 800 freestyle relay and is ranked in the Huskies all-time top 10 in the 200 (fourth), 500 (third), 1000 (third), and 1650 (third).  She was twice named the team MVP and served as team captain in 2012 and 2013.

In a volunteer coaching role last season working primarily with the Huskies distance freestylers, she helped freshman Brooke Gilson (Whitehall/Whitehall) to the NCAA Championships and an Honorable Mention All-America selection while also helping to guide Brandon Sherbo (Etters/Red Land) to three team records as well as several other career-best performances.

"Bridget will transition easily into the full-time assistant role and already has the respect of everyone on the team," Bloomsburg head men's and women's swimming coach Stu Marvin said. "She brings a passion for the sport that influences everyone. I am looking forward to working with her and continuing our steady rise to the top of the conference."

As a high school swimmer at Perkiomen Valley, Hilferty qualified for the PIAA State Championships in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. She was also a three-year YMCA National Championship qualifier for the Bowyertown YMCA.
