Indiana Men Sign Australian Olympic Diver

Australian 2012 Olympic platform diver James Connor has signed with Indiana University and will compete beginning in the fall of 2014, head coach Drew Johansen announced today.

“James is an absolute blue chip recruit that we are excited to add to an already great freshman class for next year,” Johansen said. “I believe the 2014-15 class is one of the best recruiting classes in the country.”

The 18-year-old Connor represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, placing 20th on the platform. He won a gold medal in the synchronized 10-meter event at the 2011 Australian Swimming Championships, as well as silver in the 3-meter synchro and 3-meter individual springboard events.

In 2012 he finished eighth on the 10-meter platform at FINA Diving Grand Prix events in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Montreal, Canada. Connor was named a member of the 2013 National Development Squad for Diving Australia.

At the 2010 FINA World Junior Championships, Connor placed fourth on the 1-meter, seventh on the 3-meter and fifth on the platform.

Originally from Melbourne, Connor moved to Brisbane at age 14 to train at the Australian Institute of Sport.
