Several Hoosiers Qualify for International Competition

Indiana swimming and diving will be represented at the 2014 European Swimming Championships in Berlin, Germany, and the 2014 FINA Diving World Cup in Shanghai, China.
 
Eric Ress, who recently competed his senior season at Indiana, and junior Justine Ress earned spots on the French team for the 2014 Euros, Aug. 18-24 in Berlin.
 
Eric Ress will compete in the 50-meter backstroke and 200-meter backstroke and was crowned France’s national champion in the 200-meter backstroke on Sunday at the French National Championships with a time of 1:58.61. He also earned a slot in the 50-meter backstroke after placing third with a time of 25.79.
 
This is Ress’ second French national title in the 200 back after winning the crown in 2010.
 
Ress’ younger sister Justine will make it a family affair in Berlin after earning a spot in the women’s 50-meter backstroke. Ress placed fourth in the 50-meter backstroke Sunday with a time of 29.26.
 
In the diving well, former Hoosier Amy Cozad will represent Team USA at the 2014 FINA Diving World Cup in the synchronized platform competition. Cozad, who completed her eligibility at IU in 2013, and partner Katrina Young won the synchronized platform World Cup trials in Florida on Sunday with a score of 626.88.  Current IU freshman Jessica Parratto and partner Gracia Leydon-Mahoney took second with a score of 591.66. Kate Hillman, who recently completed her senior season at IU, and partner Mackenzie Tweardy were sixth (505.02).
 
On Saturday, Darian Schmidt, who recently completed his senior season at IU, and partner Michael Hixon, missed out on a World Cup spot in the synchronized 3-meter springboard event, finishing second with a score of 786.39. 2012 Olympic Champion David Boudia and Samuel Dorman won the event with a score of 788.67.
 
At the 2014 Crippen Cup 10K Marathon Invitational, senior Lindsay Vrooman finished fifth in her first open water race with a time of 2:04:50.66, as just 27 seconds separated first through fifth.
