Vermont Helps Out at Food Salvage Event

Members of the University of Vermont women's swimming and diving team spent Sunday volunteering at UVM's Food Salvage program, helping to prepare and provide a healthy meal to hungry citizens in the Burlington community. Junior captain Samantha Russo, who helps coordinate the university's food salvage, got the team involved with the program this past Sunday.

The Food Salvage program helps provide community members in the Burlington area with a healthy meal every Sunday evening. The program operates out of the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf and usually serves between 40 and 100-plus people every Sunday. Russo, who is a dietetics, nutrition and food science major, first got involved with the program at the beginning of her sophomore year and was selected as a coordinator for her junior year. As a coordinator, she's been involved with the entire process, including meal planning, food shopping, cooking, serving and much more.
