Bentley Opens Season at Batterman Relays

A third-place finish in the men’s 400 yard medley relay was the highest finish in a regularly contested relay for the Bentley University swimming team, which opened its season Saturday with the Batterman Relays at MIT. Bentley also had a pair of seconds and six thirds in relay time trials during the meet.
                
Combining for a time of 3:21.32 in the 400 medley were seniors Steve Sylvia (Westerly, R.I./Westerly HS) and Andreas Mouritsen (Greve, Denmark) along with sophomore Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS) and freshman Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/Lubbock HS).
                
Bentley also took fifth in the same event with sophomores Nick Toselli (Barrington, R.I./ Barrington HS) and Luke Mason (Lowell/Lowell HS) combining with freshmen Liam Bartlett (Syracuse, N.Y./William Nottingham HS) and Gregory Coleman (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North HS) for a time of 3:29.93.
                
The Falcons had a pair of fourths in the three-team meet that was dominated by the home team, in the women’s 400 free relay (3:52.25) and the men’s 200 free relay (1:29.35). The women’s 400 free included sophomores Meg Pernsteiner (Highland Heights, Ohio/Hawken School) and Lindsey Goodwin (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) along with freshmen Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston/ Tahanto Reg. HS) and Nicole Hellstern (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS). Swimming for Bentley in the men’s 200 free were Sylvia, Mouritsen, Bury and Toselli.
                
In addition to the men’s 400 free, Bentley had three other fifth-place finishes, all in women’s events. Those came in the 400 free (3:58.22), the 200 medley (1:56.49) and the 200 free. The 400 free included Suda, sophomores Kelly Culkin (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) and Melissa Clauss (Oakland, N.J./ Bergen County Academies), and freshman Laura Schlenker (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South HS) while the quartet in the 200 free were Hellstern, Culkin, Clauss and Goodwin.
                
Bentley’s fifth in the 200 medley included senior Amanda Le (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS), Hellstern, Pernsteiner and McGahie.
                
Both seconds came in the 200 back relay time trial with the men’s team posting a 1:43.81 and the women 1:56.57. Bury was part of the men’s squad, along with freshman Matt Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J./Morristown HS), sophomore Tim Connolly (Dorchester/Boston Latin Acad.) and junior Josh Witty (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos HS) while the women’s relay included Schlenker, Pernsteiner, Le and senior Caroline Lewis (Westfield/Westfield HS).
                
There were also thirds in the men’s and women’s 200 butterfly relay, the women’s 400 freestyle relay, the men’s 1500 free relay, and the men’s and women’s 200 breaststroke relay. Sophomore Alex Liulakis (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly HS) was part of both the men’s 200 fly and the 200 breast with his leg in the 200 fly a team-best.
                
Diving was also contested in the meet as a relay. Turning in fine showings for the Falcons were sophomore All-America Nicola Mancini (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS) and freshman Nick Celia (Brentwood, N.H./Exeter HS) and sophomore Courtney Stone (Andover/Andover HS).
                
Bentley’s first dual meet of the season will be Tuesday night at WPI.
