Eastern Illinois Places Fifth, Sixth at House of Champions Invite

Eastern Illinois men's and women's swimming completed House of Championship meet action, as the Panthers finished with respective sixth and fifth place finishes.

Hosted by IUPUI, the EIU men scored 774 to outlast Centre College, while the Panther women secured 763 points to finish ahead of Butler and arch-rival Western Illinois, in addition to Centre College as well.

Quoting head coach Elliott McGill ... "It was a great weekend for us," he said.  "I feel like we kept getting stronger and faster as the meet went on. This is the fastest we've ever been at this point of the season.

"For the guys, having Harris Thompson break the mile record was awesome, as it really set the tone or the night.

"The men are really young so it was a great first big meet for them," he added.  "They are learning how to be college swimmers and compete at the highest level.

"For the ladies, Kaylee Morris and Kate Paige stood out in this meet in regard to times and placing," said McGill.  "While Nikki Peck, Beth Houghton, Caitlin Danforth and Janis McGee really sparked this team with a number lifetime bests."
