Rutgers Sweeps Georgetown, Seton Hall, Villanova

The Rutgers swimming and diving team concluded its two-day quad meet with commanding wins against all three former BIG EAST rivals. RU defeated Georgetown by a score of 251-97, Seton Hall, 244-104 and Villanova, 217-130. With the victories, the Scarlet Knights improve to a perfect 4-0 on the year in head-to-head competitions.

 

Senior Mary Moser (Wyomissing, Pa.) and sophomore Joanna Wu (Kent, Wash.) each posted two first place individual finishes on the day and were also members of the winning 200 medley relay team to lead the Scarlet Knights. Moser claimed first the 100 yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly and Wu was the top finisher in the 200 backstroke and 500 freestyle.

 

RU opened the second day of competition with a win in the 200 medley relay. The team of Wu, Greta Leberfinger (Chatham, N.J), Brittany Guinee (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) and Moser combined for a time of 1:47.33.

 

Morgan Pfaff (Red Lion, Pa.) turned in a solid day with a first-place finish in the 400 yard I.M. and also came fourth in the 100 fly. Guinee was able to finish second in the 100 fly to add to her winning relay performance.

 

On the boards, senior Nicole Scott (Toronto, Canada) and freshman Rebecca Gross (Manchester, Pa.) once against finished one-two, this time in the 1-meter dive. Scott earned 288.60 points, while Gross posted a final score of 279.80.

 

Rutgers will conclude the first half of its season on Friday, Nov. 22 with the Frank Elm Invitational. The three-day event will be held at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center.
