Wagner Hires

Wagner College has tapped Sarah Tanner to be their new assistant.  Tanner most recently was an assistant at Ohio high school swimming power St. Xavier High School and the renowned Cincinnati Marlins Swim Team.  Prior to that she was an outstanding backstroker/ IMer/ Flyer for North Carolina.
 
A resident of Loveland, OH, Tanner enjoyed an outstanding four-year career at North Carolina, where she was a four-time member of the Atlantic Coast Conference Honor Roll and served as a Tar Heel captain as a senior in 2011-2012.
 
Known for her versatility, Tanner competed at a high level throughout her career in the freestyle sprints, butterfly, backstroke and the individual medley. Equally impressive in the classroom, Tanner was a seven-time member of the North Carolina Dean’s List while earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in American History.
 
“Sarah obviously was a highly-accomplished swimmer and competed at the highest level of NCAA Championships. She brings a wealth of experience from her years as a competitive swimmer and from a coaching standpoint, she was an assistant at one of the top prep schools in the Midwest at St. Xavier and with one of the best club organizations in the Cincinnati Marlins,” said Shanahan, the 2013 NEC Coach of the Year.
 
“She’s very bright, energetic and is very excited about the sport,” added Shanahan. “I’m enthusiastic about her energy, her love for the sport, and what she will bring to our program.”
 
Following her 2012, graduation, she joined the coaching staff at St. Xavier High School where she was entrusted to manage a group of high school athletes, create a comprehensive season-long training program tailored to each swimmer’s needs, in addition to coordinating team logistics such as travel, meet entries, and awards.
 
Tanner gained further experience as an assistant coach with the Cincinnati Marlins Swim Team that operates one of the most successful competitive swimming programs in the United States. In the last half century, the Marlins have produced some of the greatest swimmers to compete on a local, state, national and international level.  Eighteen Marlins have represented the U.S. in the Olympics, tallying 23 medals and participating in each Olympic Game since 1968.

In addition to her coaching duties, Tanner will be pursuing an MBA while at Wagner.
