The Washington University in St. Louis men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams combined to win 23 of 26 events as the Bears swept Principia College in a dual meet Friday evening.
The Washington U. women recorded a 158-28 win over Principia in the dual, while the WUSTL men earned a 145-66 over the Panthers.
Four swimmers won two individual events each to lead the Washington U. teams. Freshman Amanda Stadermann posted the second-fastest time of the season for the Bears in winning the 1,000 freestyle (10:49.62). She also won the 100 backstroke (1:02.44). Junior Chi Pham also recorded the second-fastest time of the season for WUSTL in the 100 breaststroke, winning with a time of 1:09.03. She added a second first-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:58.67.
Sophomore Tina Hinman notched a pair of career-highs, sweeping the women’s diving events with scores of 186.45 (1 meter) and 185.85 (3 meter). Freshman RJ Petrella was the only swimmer to win two individual events for the Washington U. men. He won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:25.53, and also posted the fastest time in the 100 butterfly (56.00).
The Washington University women’s swimming team is back in action Saturday, Jan. 19, when the Bears take on NCAA Division I Illinois State University at 7 p.m. at the Millstone Pool. Both the men’s and women’s teams return to Millstone Pool for their final home meet of the season Saturday, Jan. 26, against Rhodes College.
