Senior Billy DeBoissiere (Columbia, Md./Atholton) collected a pair of individual wins as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team dropped a close dual meet, 134-118, to No. 3 Johns Hopkins University Friday night.
DeBoissiere captured the 1000 freestyle in 10:08.54 while earning a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.98.
The foursome of junior Jimmy Forest (Columbia, Md./Atholton), DeBoissiere, sophomore Bobby Witkop (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), and senior Cameron Hedquist (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) claimed a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay in 1:41.94.
Hedquist finished third in the 50 backstroke in 26.82 while Forest closely followed suit in fourth in 26.88. Junior captain Thor Petersen (Germantown, Md./Northwest) picked up a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 1:50.43 while sophomore Jackson Holden (Valley Lee, Md./Great Mills) was fourth in the 50 breaststroke in 32.33.
Hedquist notched another third-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 57.11.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Friday, January 18 when St. Mary's travels to Baltimore to take on No. 3 Johns Hopkins University in non-conference action at 3:30 pm.
The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team took on No. 4 Johns Hopkins University Friday afternoon in a non-conference dual meet. The Seahawks (9-2) succumbed to a 141-112 setback despite strong swims by team captains Kelly Heyde (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) and Erin O'Connor (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill).
The Seahawks were second in the 200 medley relay in 1:57.10 behind the efforts of Heyde, sophomore Brooke Raab (Parkton, Md./Hereford), sophomore Kelsey Abernathy (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial), and sophomore Hannah Edler (Frederick, Md./Urbana).
O'Connor claimed second in the 1000 freestyle in 11:05.27 while first-year Zoe McIlmail (Frederick, Md./Urbana) notched second in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.73 followed by Raab in third in 2:06.06.
Heyde picked up a second-place finish in the 50 breaststroke in 32.83 while Abernathy came in third in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.09. Raab tallied another third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.06 to pace the Seahawks in that event.
First-year Karlie Straight (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur) was St. Mary's top finisher in the 50 backstroke with a fourth-place finish in 31.66 while Edler took fourth in the 50 freestyle in 26.55. McIlmail led the Seahawks in the 100 freestyle with a fourth-place finish in 58.25 while Straight notched her second fourth-place finish of the meet in the 100 backstroke in 1:06.46.
The Seahawks will be back in action tomorrow when St. Mary's travels to the Eastern Shore to take on Salisbury University in a Capital Athletic Conference dual meet at 1:00 pm.
