Oberlin Sweeps John Carroll

The Oberlin College men's and women's swimming and diving teams came out on top on Friday night over visiting John Carroll University, by commanding margins, as the Yeomen outscored the Lobos 143-86, while the Yeowomen won 134-97.
 
The men started the night by winning the 200-yard medley. The team of freshman Benjamin Shepard, sophomore Jack Redell, freshman Marshall Waller, and freshman Jacob Zuckerman touched the wall first at 1:41.77.
 
Sophomore Chris Ayoub went on to win the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:39.70, while Zuckerman took first in the 50-yard freestyle, touching at 22.43.
 
The Yeomen finished the 200-yard individual medley one-two, as Waller took first at 2:05.37 and Shepard took second at 2:07.00.
 
Oberlin also went on to take the top two spots in the 100-yard butterfly with Waller finishing in first with a time of 54.93 and junior Luke Harrison finishing in second with a time of 55.33.
 
Shepherd and Ayoub went on to win their second races of the night when Shepard took first in the 100-yard backstroke at 56.29 and Ayoub touched first in the 500-yard free at 5:03.56.
 
Redell rounded out the first-place Yeomen swimmers with a 1:03.64 finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.
 
The Yeomen divers had very strong performances on Friday by taking the first three spots in both the one-meter dive and the three-meter dive.
 
Sophomore Chris McLauchlan took first in one-meter dive with a score of 273.90, while junior Jordan Attwood took second and junior Rhys Hertafeld took third with scores of 252.23 and 209.70, respectively.
 
In the three-meter dive, McLauchlan (266.85), Attwood (250.28), and Hertafeld (209.70) finished one-two-three, respectively.
 
Sophomore Ellen Drake kicked off the night for first-place Yeowomen finishers with a 19:02.64 victory in the 1650-yard freestyle.
 
First-years Deirdre Haren and Jillian Sarazen tied for first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.46. Haren went on to take first in the 100-yard freestyle at 55.93, marking her second of three first-places finished on the night.
 
First-year Lauren Wong finished first in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall at 1:00.81.
 
The Yeowomen squad finished one-two-three in two races on Friday, the first being the 100-yard butterfly. First-year Mia Wallace took the top spot at 1:02.24, while sophomore Simone Christen took second at 1:02.28, and first-year Lauren Choban took third at 1:04.01.
 
Oberlin took the top three spots for the second time of the night in the 100-yard breaststroke, led by a first-place finish from Haren with a time of 1:11.46. Wallace followed in second and first-year Samma Regan finished in third with times of 1:11.61 and 1:11.88, respectively.
 
The Yeowomen swimmers wrapped up the night with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Choban, first-years Liora Mael, Sarah Kahl, and Olivia Degitz took first with a time of 1:44.60.
 
On the diving end, sophomore Adrian Ziaggi won the one-meter dive with a score of 173.70.
 
The Oberlin swimming and diving teams will continue their seasons on January 26 against Ohio Wesleyan and Notre Dame College in their final home meet of the year.
