Queens U./Charlotte Sweeps Lenoir-Rhyne

The Queens University of Charlotte men’s and women’s swim teams travelled to Hickory, N.C. to take on the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears in a dual meet this afternoon. In their first meet of the new year the Royals showed why they are consistently ranked in the top ten in the nation, and made easy work of the Bears.

The Royals finished the meet with a 378-124 win in combined score, and the women and men won 181-64 and 197-60 respectively.

“It is good to be back competing after training through the month of December,” said head coach Jeff Dugdale. “The athletes were tired, but still got the job done. We will now take the next two weekends to sharpen our skills for conference and NCAA’s”

The men started the meet off on fire, and had a swimmer place in first in every event. The men’s night was highlighted by a NCAA B-cut time of 9:29.49 in the 1000 freestyle by Alex Menke.

On the women’s side Queens won all but one event, and often had several swimmers finish in the top three. The night was highlighted by a new school record and NCAA A cut of 3:38.71 in the 400 yard medley relay by the team of Caroline Arakelian, Monica Milici, Lauren Mock, and Lillian Gordy.

The Royals take the pool next on January 19 in a meet hosted by Davidson College.
