USMMA Men, Susquehanna Women Extend Landmark Leads

The Susquehanna women and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men extended their leads on Saturday with more record-breaking performances across the board.

The Susquehanna women extended their lead to 71 points with a two-day total of 553.5. Scranton is still in second place with 482.5 points and Catholic moved into third with 302.5 points.

The Susquehanna women opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay for the first time in Landmark history and ended the night with their fourth straight win in the 800 freestyle relay. Annie Bruxelles, Kelsey Lessard, Devin Lessard and Kyle Seaman combined to win the 200 medley in 1:52.06. The Lessard sisters teamed up with Valerie Stearns and Lexi Cole to win the 800 free relay in 8:05.28. Devin Lessard followed up her 200 IM win on Friday by reclaiming the 400 IM. Lessard won the event as a sophomore in 2011 but did not compete in the 400 IM last season Cole won the 200 freestyle in 1:56.33 after earning runner-up honors a year ago.

Catholic senior Rachel Berry won the 100 butterfly in 59.87 seconds and Scranton's Paige Agnello won the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.75 with a new pool record in 1:07.75 after finishing second last season. Juniata's Hillary Palmer finished first in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.31.

Marywood's Heather Wimmer won the 3-meter dive with a score of 368.10 to set a new conference and pool record.

The USMMA men took a 224 point lead at the end of the day Saturday with 639 points. Scranton moved into second place with 415 points and Susquehanna is five points back with 410 points.

The Susquehanna men won the 200 medley relay for the third consecutive year. Taylor Cole, Chadd Lee, Duncan Frazier and Josh Heller finished first in 1:34.66 to set a new pool record. Lee won his second individual event of the championships claiming the victory in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.87 seconds, more than two seconds ahead of the competition.

USMMA won four individual events and a relay Saturday night to maintain their lead. Chris Scott won the 400 IM in a time of 4:07.54. He broke his own meet record set in 2011 and set a new pool record. Kevin Lindgren took home top honors in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.96 seconds and breezed by the competition in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.08 seconds. Alvaro Brice won the 200 free in 1:42.88 to set a new meet and pool record. Freshman William Porter won the 3-meter dive with a pool record of 450.25.

Lindgren, Brice, Blake Krell and Josh McCormick teamed up to win the 800 freestyle relay in 6:51.16, a new conference and pool record. The quartet finished more than 22 seconds ahead of their competition.

The meet resumes Sunday morning with preliminaries at 10:30 a.m. The 1650 yard freestyle will take place at 1:00 p.m. and the championship wraps up with the final six events' finals at 5:00 p.m. Follow along with live results and video stream.
