Led by four individual victories on Thursday, the Wayne State University women's swimming and diving squad increased its first place lead at the 2013 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships, being hosted by Ashland University.

On the men's side, Wayne State increased its lead over second-place Grand Valley to 42 points. The Warriors have 294 points total. GVSU is in second place with a 252 total, followed by the University of Indianapolis with 247 points. The Warrior women enjoy a much more comfortable 131-point lead over second-place Indianapolis.
WSU sophomore Piotr Jachowicz (Lodz, Poland) shattered school, meet, pool and conference records as he won the 200 IM on Thursday by more than two seconds. Jachowicz broke his own school record by more than a second, finishing with a time of 1:45.92. His time also established a new GLIAC record overall and for the conference meet. He lowered his NCAA 'A' cut qualifying time as well.
Indianapolis freshman Dawid Rybinski captured the 500 freestyle with a B'cut of 4:28.99. In the 50 freestyle, Grand Valley's Milan Medo and Lewis' Bryan Wiener tied for the win in the 50 freestyle. The 20.69 for Wiener was a school record, and the first sprint title for a school that has made its mark in the distance events in recent years.
The Warrior women were led by several strong individual performances. After finishing in second place in the preliminaries in the 500 freestyle, sophomore Kaylee Dolinski (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) improved upon her time and spot, tying for first place in the finals with a time of 5:02.94. Dolinski's time earned her an NCAA 'B' cut qualifying time.
Kayla Scott (Rochester, Mich. / Adams) won an individual conference title for the second straight year, doing it this year in the 200 individual medley. Scott, a junior, touched the wall at 2:06.04, earning an NCAA 'B' cut qualifying time.
Junior Carol Azambuja (Sao Paulo, Brazil) beat the field in the 50 freestyle, placing first with a time of 23.04. She also earned an NCAA 'A' cut qualifying mark with the finish.
The Warriors earned their fourth individual victory on the diving board as junior Paige Kortman (Holland, Mich. / Holland) improved upon her preliminary score by more than 35 points in capturing the one-meter diving title. Her total of 465.40 was 25 points better than the second-place finisher.
Competition resumes on day 3 of the Championships on Friday morning with the preliminary events at 10:30 a.m. Friday's finals will begin at 5:30 p.m
