Northern Iowa Wins Nebraska-Omaha Invite

The University of Northern Iowa women's swimming & diving team competed against seven other schools at the Nebraska-Omaha Invitational this weekend and came away with the victory. The Panthers edged the Mavericks 1633.50 to 1300.

200 Yard Medley Relay Results

The team of Natalie Johnson, Veronica Herrmann, Morgan Riley and Aftin Phyfe took home second place in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:48.33.

500 Yard Freestyle Results

In the 500 yard freestyle UNI captured five of the six top positions. Freshman Stephanie Jackson won the event with a time of 5:11.93. Lindsay Phelps, Taylor Ostrowski, Reva Bork and Ashley Nelson were the rest of the Panthers top finishers.

100 Yard Backstroke Results

Natalie Johnson won the 100 yard backstroke with a final time of 58.20. Freshman Aftin Phyfe finished in a close second with a final time of 58.40. Both times were good enough to break into the top 3 of the season top times. Mikki Freese, Sierra Sachtjen, Morgan Riley and Elise Drewsen finished third through sixth.

200 Yard Breaststroke Results

Freshman Jill Georgen finished third in the 200 yard breaststroke with a final time of 2:26.61 -- good for a new season top time. Veronica Herrmann, Sarah Hedeen and Stephanie Paape finished fourth through sixth respectively.

100 Yard Freestyle Results

Freshman Aftin Phyfe finished second and broke the school record with a time of 52.10 in the 100 yard freestyle. Mikki Freese, Natalie Johnson and Elise Drewsen finished fourth, fifth and sixth.

200 Yard Butterfly Results

Sophomore Taylor Ostrowski took top honors in the 200 yard butterfly with a final time of 2:08.03 -- good for a new season top time. Stephanie Jackson and Kayla McCormick finished second and third.

200 Yard Freestyle Relay Results

Mikki Freese, Natalie Johnson, Morgan Riley and Aftin Phyfe collected a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:35.79. 

400 Yard IM Results

Freshman Stephanie Jackson took second place in the 400 yard IM. Jackson finished with a time of 4:32.56. Jackson broke the team's season best 400 yard IM time by nearly seven seconds. The previous top 400 yard IM time was 4:39.30 by Taylor Ostrowski. Ostrowski took fifth place with a time of 4:38.05.

100 Yard Breaststroke Results

In the 100 yard breaststroke the Panthers took second through sixth place. Freshman Veronica Herrmann finished second with a time of 1:07.08. Three of the Panthers six times were good enough to qualify as top times. Jill Georgen, Caryn Knight, Stephanie Paape and Sarah Hedeen finished third through sixth respectively.

50 Yard Freestyle Results

Freshman Aftin Phyfe placed second in the 50 freestyle. Phyfe's finals time of 24.25 was good for a season top time. 10 of the first 14 finishers in the 50 freestyle were Panthers. Mikki Freese, Morgan Riley, Natalie Johnson and Elise Drewsen finished fourth through seventh respectively. 

200 Yard Backstroke Results

Senior Natalie Johnson took home top honors in the 200 yard backstroke. Johnson finished with a time of 2:07.93 -- a full three seconds better than the previous team season best time of 2:10.98. Sophomore Sierra Sachtjen took home second place with a time of 2:11.37.

100 Yard Butterfly Results

Sophomore Taylor Ostrowski took second in the 100 yard butterfly. Ostrowski finished with a time of 59.07 -- good for a new season top time. Morgan Riley, Kayla McCormick and Stephanie Jackson finished fourth, fifth and sixth, each with times checking in under a minute. 

200 Yard Freestyle Results

Junior Elise Drewsen took top honors in the 200 yard freestyle. Freshman Aftin Phyfe took third place, Ashley Nelson and Mikki Freese finished in fifth and sixth place.

The Panthers will be back in the pool on October 13th at 3 p.m. when they will play host to Nebraska at the Glen. F. Henry Swimming & Diving pool.
