Bowling Green Signs Four

Bowling Green State University's head swimming coach Petra Martin has announced the signing of Kristin Filby, Anna Babinec, Victoria Griffin and Lara Klein for the 2013-14 season.

Filby is a senior at Whitmer High School in Toledo and swims for the Greater Toledo YMCA.  She specializes in breaststroke, but has proven to be a versatile swimmer able to explore other events such as IM or freestyle.

"Kristin is a very hard-working and driven individual," Martin said.  "I have really enjoyed getting to know her through the recruiting process and I feel that she still has a lot of uncovered potential in her and with her drive it will be fun coaching her."

Babinec and Griffin will both join the team as sprinters.  Babinec attends West Ottawa High School in Holland, Mich. and swims at Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics under coach Don Kimble.  Griffin is a senior at Delone Catholic High School in Sherrystown, Pa. and swims for York YMCA under coach Mike Brooks.

"Anna is a very exciting sprinter," Martin said.  "I'm looking forward to plugging her into our sprint group and starting to work her into our relays.  Victoria comes from one of the best YMCA programs in the country.  Just like Kristin Filby, I'm excited to see more YMCA swimmers on our team."

Klein trains at Gymnazium in Leipzig, Germany and will add depth to the Falcons' mid-distance/distance group.  Her strongest events are the mid- and distance freestyle, as well as the 200 backstroke.

"We are excited to add more diversity to the team with Lara's decision and also to keep getting our mid-distance and distance group stronger.  We will be able to place Lara in several different events and we are expecting great things from her.

"I would like to thank all the coaches of our incoming student-athletes as they have all done a phenomenal job preparing these young ladies for their college career.  Also, thanks to the families and parents of these young women for giving them the opportunity to come to Bowling Green for their education and swimming.  We are growing stronger as a team and all four of these women will help us keep moving forward."
