Washington & Jefferson Sweeps St. Vincent

Senior Brittany Vogel (Butler, Pa./Butler) and freshman Michael Magdic (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) led Washington & Jefferson College to a Presidents’ Athletic Conference swimming and diving sweep of Saint Vincent College on Saturday afternoon at the Henry Memorial Natatorium.

The W&J women (6-0, 3-0 PAC) ran their consecutive dual-meet win streak to 21 with a 159-114 victory, while the Presidents’ men (2-3, 1-1 PAC) claimed a 156-116 triumph.

Vogel won three individual events and also helped the 400 freestyle relay team (3:43.21) in the final race. She touched first in the 100 backstroke (1:02.49), 200 breaststroke (2:29.71) and 200 IM (2:15.23).

Magdic paced the men’s squad with a trio of victories. He won the 200 backstroke (2:06.89) and 200 IM (2:07.57), while tying teammate junior Joey Weiland (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) for first place in the 100 backstroke at 57.00 seconds.

Senior Jonathan Weeks (Donora, Pa./Ringgold) was another triple winner for the Presidents. He was victorious in the 100 (55.28) and 200 (2:04.11) butterfly events, while also teaming with seniors Keyton Kalakewich (Edwards, Colo./Charleroi) and Andy Rish (North East, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and freshman Ulysses Laman (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) on the winning 200 medley relay (1:41.79).

Rish, Weiland, Kalakewich and freshman Jake Meyers (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock North) combined for a win in the final race, the 400 freestyle relay (3:22.54). Kalakewich also claimed the 50 freestyle (22.62), while Meyers raced to victory in the 200 freestyle (1:49.72).

Freshman Sara Boldt (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) topped the fields in both long distance freestyle events, posting times of 5:28.74 (500) and 11:13.08 (1,000).

Freshman Jessica Sweitzer (Laurel, Md./Seton Keough) earned the winning touch in the 200 freestyle (1:59.07) and also swam on the first-place 200 medley relay (1:53.72) with senior C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), sophomore Zoe Levenson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) and freshman Charlotte Lima (Brooklyn, N.Y./Choate Rosemary Hall).

Lima won the 200 backstroke (2:16.64) and Levenson earned first place in the 100 butterfly (1:01.47). Junior Kaitlin Dagg (Mentor, Ohio/Hawken) rounded out the Presidents’ winners in the 200 butterfly (2:18.90).

W&J is back in action on Wednesday at home versus Bethany. The women’s meet will be a double-dual meet with Franciscan also participating.
