McDaniel Sweeps Elizabethtown

McDaniel touched first in nine of the 11 events as part of a 56-37 victory over Elizabethtown in non-conference men's swimming action on Wednesday.

Stephen Hoyt (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) led the Green Terror (2-7) with three victories on the night while four others added two-win outings.

Ryan Hannon was part of both victories for the Blue Jays (3-7), including an individual win in the 100 backstroke.

Hoyt opened the night as the leadoff leg in the 200 medley relay. He combined with James Eu (Reston, Va./Hargrave Military Academy), Jesse Mills (Catonsville, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) and Bryan Nuckles (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) for a time of 1:42.76, which ranks sixth all-time.

Hoyt added a victory in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.84 and also touched first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:14.29.

Eu, Nuckles and Mills each added a second wins. Eu touched first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.64, edging Elizabethtown's Andrew Malik by 0.23 seconds in the final stretch, one event before Nuckles won the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.66.

Mills made it a second close victory, outstretching Malik in the 100 freestyle to win by 0.30 seconds with a time of 53.29.

Jono Leafblad (Garnee, Ill./Warren Twp.) added two individual wins. He was first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.72 before winning the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:06.64.

Patrick Rogers (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) rounded out the McDaniel winners, taking the 1000 free in a time of 10:41.94.

Hannon won the backstroke in a time of 58.19, edging Nuckles by 0.15 seconds, before teaming with Malik, Michael Rentschler and Nathaniel Vanderweff for a victory in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:36.50.

Jason Harder (Philadelphia, Pa./Pennington) was second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.16.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Washington (Md.) on Saturday, Feb. 4. Meet time is 1 p.m.




McDaniel won nine of the 11 events in a 62-33 non-conference women's swimming victory over Elizabethtown on Wednesday.

Jessica Fry (St. Mary's, Ga./Camden County) paced the Green Terror (2-7) with three individual victories while Emma Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) also added a three-win day, including as part of both relays.

Erika Harold and Abby Mitchell led the Blue Jays (3-7) with individual victories. Fry opened her night with a victory in the 1,000 freestyle, finishing with a time of 10:57.40 to outdistance the field by more than 25 seconds. She doubled back in the night's next event – the 200 freestyle – to notch her second win. This time the victory came with a personal-best time of 2:02.21, which ranks ninth on the program's all-time list. Fry closed her night with a win in the 500 freestyle, touching in a time of 5:24.74.

Duesterhaus anchored the meet-opening 200 medley relay, joining Kerrie Vanscoy (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), Rachel Walega (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) and Brittney Lenz (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) for a time of 1:54.44.

Duesterhaus added a win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.05 before closing the meet with the leadoff leg in the 200 free relay. She joined Mariel Ramey (Framingham, Mass./Keystone National), Lenz and Kerrin Holmes (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grace) for a time of 1:44.97, which ranks ninth all-time.

In addition to the two-win day by Lenz, Ramey and Walega also recorded two victories. Ramey also touched first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 59.05 while Walega won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.11.

Lexie Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) rounded out the McDaniel winners, touching first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:22.58.

Harold won the 50 free (25.98) for Elizabethtown while Mitchell was victorious in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.69, barely outtouching Lenz by 0.20 seconds for the win.

Holmes added a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle, debuting with a time of 59.22 seconds.

Abbie Schickler (Montgomery Village, Md./Covenant Life) was second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:15.97.

The Green Terror returns to action at Bryn Mawr on Saturday. Meet time is 1 p.m.
