Division III Weekend Recap

A bunch of teams jumped into the water this past weekend, hungry for competition after the long winter break. Here are just a few of the meets that happened this weekend:

1/13/12 Emory vs. Tampa: Emory faced off against Division II team University of Tampa. The Emory men won 170 to 92, and the Emory women won 177 to 83. The Emory women started off the meet with Sadie Nenning, Jennifer Aronoff, Leslie Hackler, and Anna Dobben going 1:48.92 in the 200 medley relay. Emory's Whitley Taylor won the women's 200 free with a 1:55.62, with teammate Jennifer Pak coming in second with a 1:56.19. In a close race, Jared Dubnow of Emory won the men's 100 back, going 54.26, while his teammate Ross Spock came in second with a 54.95, barely out-touching Tampa's Joshua Werner who went 54.96. Jennifer Aronoff of Emory won the women's 100 breast with a 1:07.72. Douglas James of Emory won the men's 200 fly with a 1:54.01. Ellen Schafer of Emory won the 50 free with a 24.99. McKenna Newsum-Schoenberg of Emory won the 1000 free with a 10:36.12, barely out-touching her teammate Courtney McDermott who went a 10:37.50. Ann Wolber and Anna Dobben of Emory won first and second respectively in the women's 100 free, with Wolber going 53.86, and Dobben going 53.98. Sadie Nenning of Emory won the women's 200 back with a 2:09.25. Peter O-Brien of Emory won the men's 200 breast with a 2:09.51.

1/13/12 Ohio Northern vs. Oberlin: ONU defeated Oberlin this weekend, the women winning 147 to 92, and the men winning 144 to 99. The ONU men started off the meet with Max McClary, Drew Kerizes, Marc Anderson, and Anders Samuelson winning the 200 medley relay with a 1:38.47. Ellen Drake of Oberlin won the women's 1000 free with a 11:24.72. Chris Ayoub of Oberlin won the men's 1000 free with a 10:32.99. Michael Schultz of ONU won the men's 200 free with a 1:45.33. Taylor McCabe of ONU won the women's 200 IM with a 2:15.91. March Anderson of ONU won the men's 100 fly with a 52.61. Brian Heilbronner of ONU won the men's 100 back with a time of 55.94. Michelle Eggers of ONU won the women's 500 free with a time of 5:29.80. Jebran Haddad of Oberlin won the men's 100 breast with a time of 1:02.18. The ONU women, Mackenzie Hoffman, Ashley Zoeller, Danielle Wildman, and Alison Garbash won the the 200 free relay with a 1:45.40.

1/13/12 Whitworth vs. Willamette: The Whitworth team conquered the Willamette Bearcats this weekend, with the women winning 150 to 38, and the men winning 153.5 to 42.5. The Whitworth ladies won the 400 medley relay with Jennifer Benson, Melissa Barringer, Samantha Smith, and Alisa Stang going 4:09.14. The Whitworth men, Nathan Ranno, Rory Buck, Wesley Tatum, and Aaron Vaccaro won the 400 medley relay with a 3:38.37. Abigail Pavelko won the women's 1000 free for Whitworth, going 10:53.58. Luke Welle of Whitworth won the 1000 free for the men with a 10:17.91. Samantha Smith of Whitworth won the women's 200 IM with a 2:16.66. Nicole Lecoq of Whitworth won the women's 200 back with a time of 2:13.03. Rory Buck of Whitworth proved once again why he is top in the nation for breaststroke by going 2:01.74 in his 200 breast.

This weekend, Washington University hosted an invite, with the attending teams being Saint Louis, DePauw, Lindenwood, Hendrix Collge, Rose-Hulman Institute, Principia College, and Missouri S&T. On the women's side, Saint Louis won with 972 points, Washington came in second with 885 points, DePauw came in third with 777.5 points, Lindenwood came in fourth with 479.5 points, Hendrix came in fifth with 226 points, Rose-Hulman came in sixth with 125 points, and Principia came in seventh with 107 points. For the men, Lindenwood won with 701.5 points, DePauw came in second with 686 points, Washington came in third with 619.5 points, Missouri S&T came in fourth with 613 points, Saint Louis came in fifth with 554 points, Rose-Hulman came in sixth with 253 points, Hendrix came in seventh with 104 points, and Principia came in eighth with 101 points. Taylor Streid of Saint Louis won the women's 200 IM with a time of 2:10.67. Ethan Goldfarb of Missouri won the men's 200 IM with a 1:58.74, with Matt Gleason of DPU coming in second with a 1:59.56. Sara Taege of Wash U won the women's 500 free with a 5:12.14. Casey Hooker of DPU won the men's 500 free with a time of 4:41.07, and Luke Dobben of Wash U came in second with a time of 4:43.41. Brian Brasser of Saint Louis won the men's 100 breast with a time of 58.16. Stephanie Heutel of Lindenwood won the women's 200 back with a time of 2:13.86. Ramunas Paknys of Lindenwood won the men's 200 back with a time of 1:53.44. Jennifer Tartavull of Wash U won the women's 100 free with a time of 54.72. Ivars Akmentins of Lindenwood won the men's 100 free with a time of 46.80. Lizzy Osterman of Saint Louis won the women's 200 fly with a time of 2:12.07. Philip Arve of Missouri won the men's 200 fly with a 1:54.07. Lindenwood's Reinis Rozensteins, Ramunas Paknys, Javier Hernandez, and Cody Friedhoff won the men's 800 free relay with a 6:59.04, with DPU's Casey Hooker, Johnny Montgomery, Matt Haeske, and Alex Alfonso coming in second with a 6:59.55. The Saint Louis women won the 400 medley relay with a 4:03.46. Lindenwood's Ramunas Paknys, Gilad Brunfman, Javier Hernandez, and Cody Friedhoff won the men's 400 medley relay with a 3:30.36. Grace Murray of Wash U won the men's 1650 free with a time of 18:01.78. Casey Hooker of DPU won the men's 1650 free with a time of 16:11.84. The Saint Louis women won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:40.70, and Wash U came in second with a 1:41.19. Catie Baker of DPU won the women's 400 IM with a time of 4:40.39, and later won the women's 200 breast with a time of 2:26.09. Ethan Goldfarb of Missouri won the men's 400 IM with a time of 4:05.71, and later won the men's 200 breast with a time of 2:06.43. Allison Siegel of Wash U won the women's 50 free with a time of 25.48, with Saint Louis's Jalynn Gieseke coming in second with a 25.58. Jack Billingsley of Saint Louis won the men's 50 free with a time of 21.46. Taylor Streid of Saint Louis won the women's 100 back with a time of 1:00.46. Ramunas Paknys of Lindenwood continues to dominate, winning the men's 100 back with a time of 51.14. Javier Hernandez of Lindenwood won the men's 100 fly with a 51.66, and DPU's Matt Gleason came in second with a 51.70. The Saint Louis women finished off the meet with a win in the 400 free relay, going 3:40.39, and the Lindenwood men won their 400 free relay with a 3:08.19.

1/14/12 Grove City vs. Washington and Jefferson: On the women's side, Grove City won 151 to 137, and on the men's side Grove City won 154 to 129. Jenny Ryan of Grove City won the women's 1000 free with a time of 10:52.72. Michael Boutwell of W&J won the men's 1000 free with a time of 10:28.00. Angela Palumbo of Grove City won the women's 200 free with a time of 1:56.99, and later won the 50 free with a time of 24.53, as well as the 100 free with a time of 53.05. Nick Hamilton of Grove City won the men's 200 free with a time of 1:47.38. Andy Rish of W&J won the men's 100 back with a time of 55.38. Katie Riesmeyer of Grove City won the women's 200 fly with a time of 2:11.02. Kirk Gagliardo of Grove City won the men's 50 free with a time of 21.31. The Grove City women, Tori Baker, Amy Melnik, Jenna Richert, and Jenny Ryan went a 3:39.35 in the 400 free relay.

1/14/12 MIT vs. Colby: The MIT won their meet 237 to 57, and the MIT men won their meet 244 to 42. The MIT women started off the meet by going 4:00.22 in the 400 medley relay, with Christy Rogers, Calley Murphy, Katelyn Rossick, and Anna Kokensparger. The MIT men went 3:26.97 with Ryan Terbush, Michael Liao, Wyatt Ubellacker, and Colby Dunn. Emmie Ryan of MIT won the women's 1000 free with a 10:20.33, with Mandy Ferguson from Colby coming in second with a 10:43.54. Emmie Ryan also won the women's 100 free with a time of 54.53. Thomas Finn of MIT won the men's 1000 free with a 9:48.34. Colby Dunn won the men's 200 free with a 1:43.16. Eann Tuan of MIT won the women's 50 back with a 27.67, and Ryan Terbush of MIT won the 50 back for the men with a 25.04. Michael Liao of MIT won the men's 50 breast with a 27.08. Anna Kokensparger of MIT won the women's 200 fly with a time of 2:11.00, and also won the 50 fly with a time of 26.42. Wyatt Ubellacker of MIT won the men's 50 free with a 21.08, and the men's 50 fly with a 22.81. Mandy Ferguson of Colby won the women's 500 free with a time of 5:14.34. Tony Chen, Brendan Deveney, Brendon Chiu, and Wyatt Ubellacker won the men's 400 free relay with a 3:08.82.

Some other impressive times from this weekend include: Adam Eramo of Trinity College (CT) going 10:13.56 in his 1000 free. Adrianne Madden of Wheaton College went a 55.76 in the same meet. Margaret Rippe of NYU swam an 18:06.99 in her 1650 free this weekend in a meet against Springfield College. Kellie Pennington of Springfield swam a 1:57.93 in her 300 free, and later went 53.56 in her 100 free. Charles Wu of NYU swam a 53.89 in his 100 backstroke. James Bedell of NYU swam a 22.01 in his 50 free, and later that meet swam a 52.71 in his 100 fly. Megan Rappa of NYU swam a 5:17.59 in her 500 free. Eva Kolstad of Dickinson College went 25.77 in her 50 free against McDaniel College. Doug Murray of Dickinson went a 21.15 in his 50 free at that same meet. Carson Gannon of Dickinson swam a 5:24.88 in her 500 free. Alex Anderson of the University of Mary Washington went 51.30 in the meet against Salisbury and Marymount University. Andrew Garofolo of Mary Washington went 5:01.09 in his 500 free that meet. Amber Kerico of Mary Washington went 1:00.11 in her 100 fly. Megan DeSmit of Mary Washington went 5:24.33 in her 500 free in that meet as well. Zach Ligus of Saint Vincent College went 1:47.52 in his 200 free against Bethany College this weekend. Kenny Kleso of Hartwick College swam a 10:01.28 in his 1000 free against Alfred College this weekend. His teammate Miles Blaney went 1:45.37 in his 200 free that same meet. Sierra Beecher of Westminster College went a 4:52.90 in her 400 IM against Chatham this weekend.

Well, glad to see everyone is looking fast after some hard winter training! I am sure a lot of coaches out there are excited to see what these kids can do in a few short weeks.
