Michigan, fresh of a nail biting win over Texas, is the unanimous
selection for #1. Texas follows close behind. Arizona reigns among a
tightly bunched Pac-12, with four teams in the top eight. Iowa soars to
10th after a big win over Minnesota. North Carolina rules the roost in
the ACC, with State as the surprise second team. Louisville leads the
Big East field by far, with UNLV the lone mid-major representative on
the poll. On the women's side, Georgia debuts the 2011-2012 rankings at
the top of the country, although California and Florida picked up 1st
place votes. Texas ranks as the highest Big 12 entrant, while Minnesota
tops the Big 10. The ACC is led by North Carolina, while Louisville
ranks as Big East queen. SMU is the top team from outside of the major
conferences.In the land of Division II, there appears to be a possible changing of the guard as 7 time consecutive NCAA Champion Drury University is not sitting near the top. The past 2 NCAA runners-up are battling for the top spot as UC San Diego and the University of the Incarnate Word look powerful in the early season action. There were no big surprises in the early season Top 25 poll for the women as Drury and UC San Diego look to continue to dominate the D-II action. There appears to be a lot of depth across the country as several teams are swimming well in the early season matchups.
