Washington & Jefferson Sweeps Saint Vincent

Washington & Jefferson College set three pool records and one school record during its sweep of Saint Vincent in Presidents’ Athletic Conference swimming and diving action on Saturday afternoon.

The Presidents’ women (8-0, 3-0 PAC) remained undefeated with a 146-110 win, while the W&J men (5-1-1, 2-1 PAC) recorded a 155-105 triumph.

The first pool record fell in the opening race as junior C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and freshmen Rosemarie O’Connor (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis), Jenna Supp (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) and Zoe Levenson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) teamed for a time of 1:54.34 in the 200 medley relay.

Freshman Isabella Diaz (Walnut Creek, Calif./Las Lomas) set another pool record in the 1000 freestyle (11:14.03) before also capturing the 500 freestyle (5:30.23) later in the meet.  Junior Brittany Vogel (Butler, Pa./Butler) set the final pool record during her victory in the 200 IM (2:19.45).

The school record fell on the 1-meter diving board as junior Justin Weifenbach (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) recorded an 11-dive total of 442.70 points.  That mark qualifies him for the NCAA Division III Championships.

Classmate and fellow diver Bethany Haver (Akron, Ohio/Harvey S. Firestone) also posted yet another NCAA qualifying mark with her 11-dive total of 424.80 points.

On the men’s side, juniors Jonathan Weeks (Donora, Pa./Ringgold) and Andy Rish (North East, Pa./Cathedral Prep) racked up four victories.  Both swam on the winning 200 medley (1:44.08) and 200 freestyle relays (1:31.38).  Weeks captured the 100 (50.35) and 200 freestyles (1:52.65), while Rish earned the 100 (56.40) and 200 (2:08.08) backstroke events.

Sophomore Patrick O’Toole (Butler, Pa./Fox Chapel) was a double winner with first-place finishes in the 200 butterfly (2:09.04) and 200 IM (2:09.30), while sophomore Katlin Dagg (Mentor, Ohio/Hawken) accomplished the same for the women’s squad with wins in the 200 butterfly (2:17.60) and 200 freestyle (1:52.65).

Corcoran also win the 50 (25:46) and 100 (55.64) freestyles before leading the 200 freestyle relay (1:45.40) to a win with the same trio joining her from the opening relay.  O’Connor also touched first in the 100 (1:03.81) and 200 (2:20.45) backstroke events.

W&J returns to the pool again on Wednesday in West Virginia when it travels to face Bethany for a PAC meet at 6:00 pm.
