NSISC Day One - Delta State Women, Missouri S&T Men Lead

Missouri S&T's quest for a fifth straight New South Intercollegiate Swimming Championships title began Wednesday night with the Miners taking the lead after the first day of competition, thanks to four finishes among the top seven in the two events that were contested.

Day one in the pool for Dan'l Murray's Delta State Swimming and Diving team was equally successful.  The Lady Statesmen hold a 13 point lead over secnd place Truman State.

For the Lady Statesmen the youth movement began with freshman Maria Torres winning the 1000 freestyle where she bested Truman State's Julia Jones.  DSU's distance domination continued in the men's 1000 free where junior Wolfgang Mairinger contiued his strong season, winning the 1000 Yard Distance Freestyle, with a B-cut time of 9:24.91.

Henderson State's women and Ouachita Baptist's men's squads won the night's only relay, capturing the 200 Medleys respectively.

Through the first day, the women's team scores are Delta State 92, Truman State 79, Ouachita 70, Drury 70, Henderson State 62, and New Orleans 26.  On the men's side Missouri S&T sits first with 95 points followed by Drury (72), Delta State and Truman State with 67 each, Ouachita Baptist (65), Henderson State (51) and New Orleans (24).
