The diving well in Rawstrom Natatorium was the only part of the pool in use as the University of Delaware men’s and women’s diving teams hosted the Delaware Diving Invitational against Towson and West Chester in the Carpenter Sports Building on Saturday.
Sophomore Brian Coonce led the Blue Hens, posting a victory from the men’s 3-meter board by over 10 points. His 302.15 points were 10.20 points better than Ryan Kuser from West Chester. Coonce also posted a second place finish in the 1-meter dive with 282.80 points, finishing as the top performer for in each event for the Blue Hens.
Seth Bergman set a new career best from the 3-meter board, finishing third with a score of 283.85. Nick Hoffman also posted a new career high, but unlike Bergman he set it from the 1-meter board while coming in fourth with a score of 280.75.
Erika Bilenki had the top two performances on the women’s side, coming in fourth place in the 1-meter event and coming in sixth in the 3-meter event. Caroline Baker from Towson stole the show from the home team, winning from both distances in a going away fashion. She bested her second place teammate Lauren Ray by over 15 points in each event.
Kuser won the 1-meter event on the men’s side with a score of 332.5.
The Blue Hen swim teams will be back in action next weekend as they travel to the Terrapin Invitational at the University of Maryland starting on February 11 at 11 a.m.

Junior Caroline Baker (Tuscarora H.S./Adamstown, Md.) finished first in the one-meter and three-meter diving events to lead Towson University at the Delaware Diving Invitational held at the University of Delaware’s Rawstrom Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers took the top three spots in each event in their final tune-up before the CAA Championships. In addition, the Tigers took the top five places in the three-meter event.
Baker won the one-meter event by scoring 315.55 points while scoring 304.30 points to earn first place in the three-meter event. Junior Lauren Ray (Harper Creek H.S./Ceresco, Mich.) finished second in both events, scoring 287.65 points in the three-meter event along with a score of 271.95 points in the one-meter event.
Junior Jeanne Ball (Magruder H.S./Rockville, Md.) was third in the one-meter event by scoring 267.35 points while freshman Laura Lee Thomas (St. Michael’s H.S./Santa Fe, N.M.) placed third in the three-meter event with a score of 285.85 points.
Thomas was fifth in the one-meter diving event with a score of 257.90 points while Ball was fourth in the three-meter event by scoring 264.50 points. Sophomore Gabi LePore (Windsor H.S./Windsor, Conn.) finished fifth in the three-meter event with a score of 256.45 points.
The Tigers will be idle until the Colonial Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be held at George Mason University later this month.
