Bispo and Dwyer Take National Honors

Six victories and multiple NCAA “B” cuts by Karlee Bispo (University of Texas) and five first place finishes along with a national best time this season by Conor Dwyer (University of Florida) have earned the pair the Counsilman-Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week Honors.  Also winning this week’s award were Ewa Jamborska (NOVA Southeastern University), Jorge Ospina (NOVA Southeastern University), Tracilyn Babington (Randolph-Macon College), and John Hu (Stevens Institute of Technology).  The six recipients were selected by coaches and media relations personnel for their performances January 25-January 31.

Division I

Karlee Bispo
University of Texas
Junior- Modesto, CA
In a meet against Arizona, Bispo was a part of six Longhorn victories.  She won the 100 free (49.24, NCAA “B” cut), the 200 free (1:47.92, NCAA “B” cut), the 50 free (22.95, NCAA “B” cut), and the 200 IM (2:00.73, NCAAA “B” cut), while also finishing second in the 200 breast (2:14.14, NCAA “B” cut).  Bispo was also a member of the winning 400 free relay (49.69- split), and 400 medley relay (49.59- split).

Conor Dwyer
University of Florida
Senior- Winnetka, Ill.
Dwyer was a part of five first place finishes in meets against Tennessee and Indian River State College.  He won the 400 IM (3:44.73), which is the fastest time in the NCAA this season.  He also won the 200 free (1:34.33), the 1650 free (15:05.97).  Dwyer was a member of the winning 200 free relay (1:20.26, 19.89 split) and the 200 medley relay (1:28.84, 24.64- breast split).

Division II

Ewa Jamborska
NOVA Southeastern University
Junior- Katowice, Poland
In a tri-meet against Florida Atlantic and Florida International, Jamborska achieved two NCAA “B” cuts.  She swam the 100 breast (1:07.34, NCAA “B” cut) and the 400 IM (4:38.44, NCAA “B” cut).  She also swam the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay (31.31- breast split).

Jorge Ospina
NOVA Southeastern University
Junior- Lazumillos, Venezuela
In a meet against Florida Atlantic, Ospina won the 100 fly (50.65, NCAA “B” cut & school record), as well as the 500 free (4:43.01).  The 500 free mark was a personal best time.  He also swam on the winning 200 medley relay (1:36.86, 22.74- fly split).

Division III

Tracilyn Babington
Randolph-Macon College
Freshman - Hillsboro, OH
In a 140-122 win over Catholic University, Babington was a part of four wins. Individually, she won the 100 breast (1:07.50, school record), as well as the 200 breast (2:32.13). Babington also swam breaststroke on the winning 400 medley relay team (1:07.89- split) and led off the first-place 200 freestyle relay.

John Hu
Stevens Institute of Technology
Sophomore- Oak Harbor, Wash.
In a 135-64 win against SUNY NP, Hu won the 200 IM (1:58.88).  The next day against TCNJ, he had three more event wins.  He swam the 200 fly (1:52.50), the 200 breast (2:11.10), and the 200 IM (1:57.54).
