This weekend was a huge weekend for Division III swimming. With so many winter invitationals happening, many teams stripped off all their warm winter clothing and dove into the pool, freshly shaven after a month of No-Shave-November, and put up some amazing times. Take a look at some of the big meets that happened over this weekend:
MIT Invitational
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tufts, NYU, Wheaton, Bowdoin, Keene State, and Colby College.
The MIT women started off the meet by winning the 200 free relay, with Christy Rogers, Elina Hu, Katelyn Rossick, and Anna Kokensparger going 1:36.26. The MIT men followed that up with an extremely fast 1:22.02, swum by Colby Dunn, Brendan Deveney, Austin Fatham, and Wyatt Ubellacker. James Black, Drew Ledwith, Austin Harris, and Jared Hyde of Keene State came in second in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:24.38. A freshman from MIT, Emmie Ryan won the women's 500 free with a final time of 5:03.23. Drew Ledwith of Keene State won the men's 500 free with a time of 4:33.25. Anna Kokensparger of MIT won the women's 200 IM with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 2:05.04. She was closely followed by Katelyn Rossick of MIT who went a 2:07.46. Brendan Deveney of MIT won the men's 200 IM with a final time of 1:52.85, followed by Ben Bauchwitz of MIT who went 1:53.67. Colby Dunn and Wyatt Ubellacker won the men's 50 free, with Dunn going a final time of 20.68, and Ubellacker going a final time of 20.72. The MIT women then got their NCAA B-cut in the 400 medley relay, with Christy Rogers, Calley Murphy, Anna Kokensparger, and Elina Hu going 3:52.97. The MIT men followed them up with Ryan Terbush, Michael Liao, Wyatt Ubellacker, and Ben Bauchwitz going 3:22.67. The next day the women swapped out Hu for Eann Tuan and swam the 200 medley relay in a 1:45.93. The men swapped Bauchwitz for Colby Dunn, and their 200 medley relay went 1:31.61. Katelyn Rossick of MIT won the women's 400 IM with a 4:33.14. She was followed by Silke Herold from NYU who went 4:37.89. Drew Ledwith from Keene State continued to have a great meet, winning the 400 IM with a 4:05.20. Anna Kokensparger of MIT won the women's 100 fly with a final time of 57.47, and later won the 200 fly with a final time of 2:07.10. Wyatt Ubellacker won the men's 100 fly with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 48.74. Matthew Chapa of MIT came in second with a B-cut time of 50.57. Colby Dunn of MIT won the men's 200 free with a final time of 1:39.37, just .04 off the NCAA A-cut. Michael Liao of MIT won the men's 100 breast with a final time of 56.96, and later won the men's 200 breast with a final time of 2:03.98. MIT's Christy Rogers won the women's 100 back with a final time of 57.03. Drew Ledwith of Keene State continues his amazing swims by winning the mile with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 15:37.13, nearly five seconds under the A-cut. Christy Rogers of MIT won the women's 200 back with a final time of 2:05.43. Cara Morris of Wheaton won the women's 100 free with a final time of 53.60. Colby Dunn of MIT won the men's 100 free with a final time of 45.29. Remy Mock of MIT won the men's 200 fly with a final time of 1:52.21, and he was followed by teammates Matthew Chapa and Jeffrey Lin, who went 1:53.70 and 1:53.80 respectively. The MIT men finished off an amazing meet with another B-cut in the 400 free relay, with Tony Chen, Colby Dunn, Brendan Deveney, and Wyatt Ubellacker going 3:03.63. On the women's side, MIT won the meet with 1308 points, NYU came in second with 824 points, Tufts came in third with 564 points, Wheaton came in fourth with 392 points, Bowdoin came in fifth with 316 points, Colby came in sixth with 185 points, and Harvard came in seventh with 152 points. On the men's side, MIT won the meet with 1397.5 points, NYU came in second with 688.5 points, Keene State came in third with 588 points, Tufts came in fourth with 490.5 points, Bowdoin came in fifth with 324.5 points, Wheaton came in sixth with 186 points, and Colby came in seventh with 127 points.
DePauw Invitational
Wittenberg, DePauw, Transylvania, Illinois Wesleyan, Rhodes, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Millikin University, and Franklin College.
The Wittenberg women started the meet off with Logan Griffith, Sinjin McNicholl, Jane Tsivitse, and Ward McNulty going 1:38.48. Catie Baker of DPU won the women's 100 breast with a final time of 1:05.74. Jane Tsivitse of Wittenberg won the women's 100 free with a final time of 54.47. Kaley Wittrock of Millikin won the women's 200 fly with a final time of 2:09.59. The DPU women, Rachel Wheaton, Katie Morrison, Catie Baker, and Nicole Rossillo won the 800 free relay with a 7:58.53. The Wittenberg women, Sarah Wilson, Molly Gustafson, Keaton Hannon, and Jane Tsivitse won the 400 medley relay, going 3:58.87. On the second day, Amanda Skinner of TU-KY won the women's 400 IM with a time of 4:34.50. Sarah Wilson of Wittenberg won the women's 100 back with a final time of 59.02. Angela Lugg of the Titans won the women's 200 free with a final time of 1:57.79. Catie Baker continues to have a great meet, winning the women's 200 breast with a final time of 2:19.76. Rachel Wheaton, Courtney Lehmann, Emily Weber, and Nicole Rossillo of DPU won the women's 400 free relay with a time of 3:39.06. For the men, Yunan Yang of TU-KY won the men's 100 breast, going 57.53 in prelims, and 58.04 in finals. Mikey Firth of the Titans won the men's 200 back with a final time of 1:54.58, and later won the 100 back with a final time of 52.16. Alex Alfonso of DPU won the men's 100 free, going 47.28 in the prelims, and 47.36 in finals. Matt Gleason of DPU won the men's 200 fly with a final time of 1:52.46. The DPU men won the 800 free relay, with Casey Hooker, Johnny Montgomery, Matt Haeske, and Robby Spichiger going 6:51.60. In the men's 400 medley relay, George Morrison, Jordan Bantista, Casey Hooker, and Joe Hessburg of DPU went a 3:30.35. Johnny Montgomery of DPU also won the men's 50 free with a final time of 20.98. Matt Haeske of DPU won the men's 200 free with a final time of 1:43.22. Erik Campbell of Rhodes won the men's 100 fly with a final time of 51.96. On the women's side, DePauw won with 993 points, Wittenberg came in second with 776.5 points, Illinois Wesleyan came in third with 459.5 points, Transylvania came in fourth with 345 points, Rhodes came in fifth with 290 points, Millikin came in sixth with 249 points, Rose-Hulman came in seventh with 178 points, and Franklin came in eighth with 142 points. On the men's side, DePauw came in first with 1146 points, Wittenberg came in second with 532 points, Rose-Hulman came in third with 494 points, Illinois Wesleyan came in fourth with 368 points, Transylvania came in fifth with 345 points, Rhodes came in sixth with 266 points, Franklin came in seventh with 221 points, and Millikin came in eighth with 121 points.

Ursinus College, Albright, Rowan, Swarthmore, Messiah, Widener, Juniata, Cabrini, Lycoming, and Ocean County College.
Ursinus started off the meet by winning the 200 free relay, with Malena Laire Ferrari, Lianna Foster-Bey, Anne Ludwig, and Chelsea Kozior going 1:41.54. The men from Rowan won their 200 free relay, with Max Tyburski, Larry Dow, Troy Cervini, and Billy Malone going 1:22.81. Allison Schneider won the women's 500 free with a final time of 5:14.74, and Kelsey Lake of Widener came in second with a time of 5:15.91. There was quite the race going on in the men's 500 free. Scott Paine of the Ursinus Bears won with a final time of 4:55.08, Jordan Mulligan of Widener came in second with a 4:55.10, Gary Hessler of Rowan came in third with a 4:55.23, and Joe Gershun of the Bears came in fourth with a 4:55.50. Malena Laire Ferrari of the Bears won the women's 200 IM with a final time of 2:11.36, and she later won the 100 back with a final time of 58.59, and the 200 back with a final time of 2:04.72. In the women's 50 free, Laura Harris of Widener came in first with a final time of 24.46, and Kate Wiseman of Swarthmore came in second with a 24.83. Max Tyburski of Rowan won the men's 50 free with a time of 20.60. The Widener women won the 400 medley relay with Caitlyn Howard, Laura Farrar, Laura Harris, and Kelsey Lake going 4:04.68. Those same ladies later won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:52.95. Messiah College's Katelynn Sagaser, Lauren Clune, Laura Penwell, and Hanna Schaffer came in second in the 200 medley relay with a final time of 1:55.98. The Rowan men won the 400 medley relay with Larry Dow, Dan Bower, Max Tyburski, and Billy Malone going 3:24.91, and those same guys later won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:34.04. Supriya Davis of Swarthmore won the women's 100 fly with a final time of 57.89, and she later won the 200 fly with a final time of 2:08.56. Max Tyburski continues to have a great meet, winning the 100 fly for Rowan with a final time of 50.27. Kathryn Viola of Juniata won the women's 100 breast with a final time of 1:10.71. Dan Bower of Rowan won the men's 100 breast with a final time of 59.00, and his teammate Larry Dow won the 100 back with a final time of 51.03. Codi Herr of Albright won the women's 100 free with a time of 53.69, and Kate Wiseman of Swarthmore came in second with a 54.53. Billy Malone of Rowan won the men's 100 free with a final time of 46.09. Laura Farrar of Widener won the women's 200 breast with a 2:29.16. The Rowan men finished off a great meet with Troy Cervini, Mitch Friedel, Dan Bower, and Tim Dimond going 3:16.39 in the 400 free relay, just barely out-touching Ursinus's David Yazbeck, John Wieczorek, Christopher Smith, and Scott Paine who went 3:16.98. On the women's side, Widener won the meet with 625 points, Ursinus came in second with 611 points, Rowan came in third with 561.5 points, Swarthmore came in fourth with 454 points, Albright came in fifth with 370 points, Messiah came in sixth with 295 points, Juniata came in seventh with 283 points, Lycoming came in eighth with 154.5 points, Ocean County came in ninth with 92 points, and Cabrini came in tenth with 80 points. On the men's side, Rowan won with 1038 points, Ursinus came in second with 632.5 points, Swarthmore came in third with 472.5 points, Widener came in fourth with 367 points, Albright came in fifth with 333 points, Messiah came in sixth with 241 points, Ocean County came in seventh with 160 points, Lycoming came in eighth with 133 points, and Cabrini came in ninth with 87 points.

Some very fast times were put up at this meet. Andrew Chevalier of Kenyon went 15:58.50 in the 1650 free, and AJ Yee of CMU went 16:10.96 in his 1650 free. Sydnee Lindblom of Kenyon went 17:12.16 in her mile free as well. The Kenyon men went 6:46.07 in their 800 free relay with Ian Stewart-Bates, Blake Preston, David Somers, and Joe Pysnik. The CMU men, Glaser-Garbrick, Yee, Bohn, and Wagner went 6:57.37 in their 800 free relay. The men of Grove City, Ben Bowser, Nick Hamilton, Eric Fairchild, and Kirk Gagliardo went 6:57.56 in their 800 free relay. They Kenyon women won the 200 free relay, with Quinn, Connolly, Yarosh, and Caldwell going 1:34.66. The Grove City women went 1:36.60, with Hurley, Brown, Katopodis, and Palmer in their 200 free relay. The Kenyon men won the 200 free relay with Stewart-Bates, Turk, Somers, and Richardson going 1:20.99. Hannah Saiz of Kenyon won the women's 200 fly with a 2:00.31. Katie Riesmeyer of Grove City went 2:05.30 in her 200 fly final. Angela Palumbo went a 1:51.95 in the prelims of the 200 free, and later went a 1:53.10 in finals. CMU's Austin Bohn went 2:05.68 in his 200 breast final. Angela Palumbo continues her hot streak, going 51.75 in her 100 free, with Kenyon's Meghan Quinn coming in behind her with a 52.12. Ian Stewart-Bates won the men's 100 free with a 44.84 in the finals. Kellyn Caldwell of Kenyon won the women's 200 IM with a timed final of 2:05.90. The Kenyon women won the 400 free relay, with Meghan Quinn, Anna Connolly, Hillary Yarosh, and Kellyn Caldwell going 3:27.36. The Edinboro men followed it up by winning with Darren Suroviec, Seth Dippold, Jared Malecki, and Ryan Sestak going 1:24.65. Starting off the meet, Cooper Kearns of Gettysburg won the women's mile with a time of 17:55.53. Johns Hopkins put up two newcomers for the wins in the 200 back, with freshman Hannah Benn going 2:08.17, and freshman Melinda Yau going 2:08.42. For the men, Dylan Davis of Johns Hopkins won the 200 back with a final time of 1:49.17, an NCAA automatic qualifying time. Hopkins senior Elizabeth Rogers won the women's 100 free with a time of 52.88, and her teammate Dylan Coggin won the men's 100 free with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 44.64. Hopkins senior Timothy Nam won the 200 breast with a time of 2:03.01. In a close race, Hopkins freshman Kivilcim Gunay won the women's 200 fly with a time of 2:11.38, and sophomore Allison Martin of UMW came in second with a 2:11.71. For the men, Nick Schmidt of Hopkins won the men's 200 fly with a final time of 1:50.97, and Billy Norfolk of UMW came in second with a final time of 1:51.30. The Gettysburg men, Jason Potter, Mike Harmon, Ashton Leyens, and Matt Libby came in second with a 3:04.22. In the men's 400 IM, UMW freshman Hugh Anderson won with a time of 4:03.91. In the women's 100 fly, Taylor Kitayama of Hopkins won with a 57.46. Nick Schmidt of Hopkins won the men's 100 fly with a 49.65. Sarah Rinsma of Hopkins won the women's 200 free with a final time of 1:54.69. Anthony Lordi of Hopkins won on the men's side with a time of 1:39.57. In the women's 100 breast, Annie Tsay of Hopkins won with a time of 1:07.57, and Megan Desmit of UMW got second with a time of 1:08.08. For the men, Timothy Nam won the 100 breast with a time of 57.56. Taylor Kitayama of Hopkins won the women's 100 back with a B-cut time of 57.63. Freshman Dylan Davis of Hopkins won the men's 100 back with a time of 51.05. Continuing a fast streak, the Hopkins men won the 800 free relay with Dylan Coggin, Will Kimball, Nick Schmidt, and Anthony Lordi going an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 6:41.48. In the women's 500 free, Alex Ladd won with a final time of 5:08.28, with Carson Gannon of Dickinson coming in second with a time of 5:11.27. Nick Schmidt of Hopkins continues to swim well going a 4:35.00 in his 500 free. Taylor Kitayama of Hopkins won the women's 200 IM with a 2:08.51, and her teammate Samantha Fox came in second with a 2:08.94. Carter Gisriel and Dylan Coggins went B-cut times of 20.81 and 20.83 respectively in the 50 free. The Hopkins men went a B-cut time of 3:22.75 in their 400 medley relay, with Joseph Acquaviva, Timothy Nam, Nick Schmidt, and Anthony Lordi. On the women's side, Hopkins won the meet with 1201 points, Gettysburg came in second with 706 points, UMW came in third with 637 points, and Dickinson came in fourth with 233 points. On the men's side, Hopkins won with 1150 points, Gettysburg came in second with 841.5 points, UMW came in third with 546.5 points, and Dickinson came in fourth with 257 points. Hopkins is looking like a force to be reckoned with come March.
Carthage College Swimming Classic

The Olivet women started out strong, winning the 200 free relay with Caitlin Lohr, Jana Blodgett, Kristin Long, and Jazmin Johnson going 1:39.79. The Olivet men won their 200 free relay with Brian Fiorillo, Mike Harden, Ben Aldrich, and Austin Munn going 1:23.46. Kyle Drake of Carthage won the men's 200 IM with a final time of 1:54.29. Ember McCoy of Carthage won the women's 500 free with a final time of 5:11.37, closely followed by LFC's Loren Dutca who went a 5:12.99. Lewis's Derrick Carlson and Brand Drogemuller got first and second in the final of the men's 500 free, with Carlson going 4:35.55, and Drogemuller going 4:42.20. Ashley Gladis of Carthage won the women's 100 breast with a final time of 1:08.17. Phil Barone of Olivet out-touched Lewis's Chris Bonavolanto in the finals of the men's 100 breast, with Barone going from a 1:01.15 in prelims to a 59.47 in finals, beating Bonavolanto's final time of 59.67. Katie Hallenbeck of Lewis won the 200 back with a 2:07.63, and Kelly Loftus came in second with a 2:07.96. Carthage's Kyle Drake had an amazing 200 backstroke, going a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 1:48.91 in prelims, and a 1:49.11 in finals. Jazmin Johnson of Olivet won the women's final of the 100 free with 53.67. Olivet's Mike Harden won the men's 100 free final with a time of 46.91. In the 800 free relay, the Carthage women won with Natalia Bialecka, Ashley Gladis, Lisa Perdue, and Ember McCoy going 8:02.18. The men from Lewis won their 800 free relay with Brett Busch, Brandon Drogemuller, Edwin Welsh, and Derrick Carlson going 7:01.56. Ashley Gladis of Carthage won the women's final of the 400 IM with a 4:38.95, and Becky Shaak of LFC came in second with a 4:42.75. Kyle Drake continues to have an amazing meet, winning the final of the men's 400 IM with a 4:01.42. He later won the men's 100 back with a final time of 52.05. Ember McCoy of Carthage won the women's 200 free with a final time of 1:57.35. Derrick Carlson of Lewis won the men's 200 free with a final time of 1:43.38. Katie Hallenbeck of Lewis won the women's 100 fly going a 58.88, and Doug Schranck of Carthage won the men's 100 fly with a 51.83. Hallenbeck later won the women's 1650 free with a time of 17:40.34. Caitlin Lohr of Olivet won the women's 50 free, going 23.98 in prelims, and 24.38 in finals. Brian Fiorillo of Olivet won the men's 50 free, going 20.70 in prelims, and 20.92 in finals. Brandon Drogemuller of Lewis won the men's mile with a time of 15:55.39. The Carthage women finished the meet well, winning the 400 free relay with Natalia Bialecka, Jensena Paul, Lisa Perdue, and Ember McCoy going 3:39.23. On the women's side, Carthage won the meet with 1054 points, Lewis came in second with 757.5 points, LFC came in third with 613.5 points, Olivet came in fourth with 575 points, and Robert Morris came in fifth with 91 points. On the men's side, Carthage won the meet with 966 points, Olivet came in second with 958 points, Lewis came in third with 675 points, and LFC came in fourth with 515 points.

The Rochester women, Lauren Bailey, Karen Meess, Meg Lawless, and Ellie Ansani won the 200 free relay with a final time of 1:38.95. The Rochester women, Booky Porapakkham, Chris Doser, Adam Bossert, and Alex King won the men's 200 free relay with a final time of 1:25.09. Tina Belletete won the women's 500 free with a time of 5:13.04. Emily Friedline of Rochester won the women's 200 IM with a final time of 2:11.00, and later won the women's 400 IM with a final time of 4:37.72. Lauren Bailey of Rochester won the women's 50 free with a final time of 24.50, closely followed by Union's Priscilla Wright, who went 24.56. Booky Porapakkham of Rochester won the men's 50 free with a time of 21.55. The Rochester men finished off the first day with James Frauen, Adam Bossert, Brian Wong, and Chris Doser winning the 400 medley relay with a final time of 3:30.04. Mairead Lyons of Rensselaer won the women's 100 fly with a final time of 58.34. Brian Wong of Rochester won the men's 100 fly with afinal time of 50.81. Chris Doser of Rochester won the men's 200 free with a final time of 1:45.13. Adam Bossert of Rochester won the men's 100 breast with a final time of 57.20. Alex Updegrove of Rensselaer won the men's 100 back with a final time of 53.95. Tina Belletete won the women's mile with a time of 18:01.94, and Nate Hosking won the men's mile with a final time of 16:39.72. Tina Belletete won the women's 200 back with a time of 2:08.97, and she was followed by Saint Lawrence's Casey Abribat who went 2:11.38. Carly Antonucci of Rensselaer won the women's 200 breast with a time of 2:29.36, followed by Vassar's Caroline Shannon who went 2:31.18. Adam Bossert of Rochester won the men's 200 breast with a final time of 2:09.97. The Rochester women finished off the meet with Lauren Bailey, Meg Waring, Meg Lawless, and Teresa Xu going 3:37.60 in the 400 free relay. On the women's side, Rochester came in first with 1115.5 points, Rensselaer came in second with 629.5 points, Saint Lawrence came in third with 465 points, Union came in fourth with 371 points, Vassar came in fifth with 361 points, William Smith came in sixth with 250.5 points, Skidmore came in seventh with 227 points, and RIT came in eighth with 153.5 points. For the men, Rochester came in first with 1006.5 points, Rensselaer came in second with 790 points, Union came in third with 573 points, RIT came in fourth with 299 points, Vassar came in fifth with 292.5 points, Saint Lawrence came in sixth with 226 points, Skidmore came in seventh with 213 points, and Clarkson came in eighth with 163 points.

Alyssa Taylor of SVC won the women's 200 fly with a 2:10.88, and also won the 100 fly with a 58.79. Christine Dunleavy of SVC won the women's 100 breast with a 1:07.57. Fernando Petrilli of Pitt-Bradford won the men's 100 breast with a 59.05. Joe Woodman of SVC won the men's 500 free with a final time of 4:48.44. Daniel Simon, Justin Pritchard, Clay Altemose, and Dane Dombrosky won the men's 200 medley relay with a final time of 1:35.98. Amherst faced off against Middlebury this weekend as well. James Lichtenfels won the men's 200 free with a 1:44.02, and later won the 500 free with a 4:41.36. Andrea Tibbetts of Middlebury won the 100 back for the women with a time of 58.81. Jamie Hillas of Middlebury won the women's 100 breast with a time of 1:06.77. Michael Rochford of Amherst won the men's 200 back with a time of 1:53.38. Perrin Bulakul of Amherst won the men's 100 fly with a time of 52.57.

Phew! There were some really fast meets this weekend! So many fast times, with a sprinkling of NCAA qualifying times here and there. So now that all the fuss of winter meets is just about over, athletes and coaches prepare for winter training. Whether they stay at school, or go on training trips, you can bet there's going to be some hard training going on. Winter training is considered the hardest part of the training season. Without the worries of school, coaches have the ability to grab their swimmers and throw them into a pool as many times as they want and work them to death, praying for good results come February, and beyond. So as we look at these times from this past weekend, we pause and think, "Wow, there are some good looking teams out there. Conferences and Nationals are going to be fast!" So to all you coaches and athletes out there, we wish you the best of luck with the upcoming training season.
